Reviews for World of Warcraft: The Official Cookbook:

Yes, I totally read a cookbook. Cover to cover. In one sitting.

Don't judge me.

I'm ridiculously obsessed with World of Warcraft, and I can't wait to eat everything in this book!

When the recipes are accurate, the food is great. However, the book has numerous errors including missing ingredients, messed up instructions, and incorrect amounts of ingredients.

The recipes are interesting but there's no "original pages" download

This is an odd one. It's not a good cookbook, but on the other hand, it's not the bad one. Same thing with World of Warcraft licensed product. Always in the middle, not good, not bad.

There is (almost) none of it here. It's like a collection of some home meals from different parts of the real word, with a focus on diet, vegetarian and gluten-free. Do you think about those things when you think about food in a fictional video game? No, of course, no.

Cookbook part? Will I ever make something from it? Yes, like bread. But let's be honest, not like this cookbook will be a factor in it. That's just there. A recipe that you can find everywhere. And that's not the only one. But all that would be ok if this is not one of those cookbooks - those with pounds and oz. Sorry, but there is rest of the world that don't wanna us that metric, that will and use standard. How hard is it to put that numbers also?

Overall, it can be a nice thing to have on a shelf, as it has amazing photos of food. But no more than that. ...more

This was a fun coffee table book to thumb through.

Since I'm trying to eat more plant-based meals, this isn't a book I would dedicate shelf space in my permanent library to. That said, the author has a helpful table in the appendix on vegetarian/vegan recipes. Sadly, many are recipes for spices that go into something meaty or adult beverages. It also seemed like the balance of these recipes skewed into the dessert range, so basing your entire diet off this book might be a recipe for diabetes. For strict Wow devotees, the author seems to have been writing between Pandaria and Warlords expansion launches, so you will be hard pressed to find recipes that cover WOD, Legion or subsequent expansions.

What I liked about this book was its homage to a game I love and the gorgeous photographic presentation. If I fall off the plant-based diet wagon or level up my skill with veggie-based meat substitutes, I could see this being a great starting point for hosting IRL dinner parties to celebrate Pilgrim's Bounty, Hallow's End, etc.

So I couldn't help myself when I saw that World of Warcraft was making a cookbook. I bought it and well it looks pretty and plenty of the recipes are recognisable from the book. however some have had their name changed due to the ingrediens and this made me a bit upset. If it is a WoW cookbook, keep it a WoW cookbook and dont make stuff up on the way. Why? We who buy it know this stuff from the game.

So is this a good cookbook? well if you like "normal" recipes that are made into looking and sounding like WoW then yes. some recipes where awesome and others where just strange. If you are new to cooking, dont bother. This book is not for you.

So why do I only give it 2 start (well I am 22 start actually)?
1, The recipes are for Americans, which means it is measured in cups and all temperatures in F. I can understand the cup things but it wouldn't be too much troubles speaking to the whole world by also adding C in temperatures.

2. INGREDIENS. Once again, Americans. I live in Europe, and I cant get my hands on a lot of the stuff that is supposed to be used, some I have never heard off and I love cooking. I can get my hand on some things but then I wouldn't have any money for bills that month. So if you live outside of US/Canada, you will find that you will have a hard time finding what you need. Most of the time I did use other things so I have no idea how the original would taste.

3. Measurements are not correct. I learned this pretty quickly, and thank good I am used to think while cooking because the measurements are way off in this one. Sometimes to much and sometimes to little.

I love World of Warcraft even if cooking is boring there. I love cooking IRL but I cant see myself using this book that much because there is nothing new and it has more flaws than I hoped. Maybe Nomi would burn slightly less food if he had access to this book. To bad I cant send him mine. ...more

Lok'tar, my culinary friends! I was surprised how fun this book is and how well the author has translated Azeroth's recipes into Earth recipes. Several of them will be served at my house, for sure.
Except cranberry chutney. I made waaaaay too much of that in game. :)

With little blurbs giving a "background story" to each recipe, this was a fun way of turning in-game food into real-world equivalencies. I am definitely going to be trying a few, and I love this trend of making real dishes out of entertainment-based food.

Don’t have to be a fan of the game for this cookbook

Everything I’ve tried from this book has tasted delicious. A few recipes didn’t work exactly as it said, but they were never bad nor anything other than tasty. Rylak Claws were a big hit with my In-laws.

The whole family has been enjoying the recipes from this book. I gave my husband a mortar and pestle so he can properly make the spice blends and he has been having a good time of it. We are keeping track of all the recipes we make from it. We enjoy the format, interesting flavors, and variety of this book.

Nearly everything in this book looks delicious (not a big fan of seafood in general). While I did play Warcraft for a little while it wasn't long enough for any of the foods to make a big impression on me. My husband, however, has played almost continually for a very long time and he vouches for the fact that they are accurate, at least as far a possible for 'imaginary' foods.

A delightful, thoughtful offering

Yes, this is a transformative work involving food. But it stands so well as a cooking resource on its own, it's phenomenal. Special diet? No problem! Unfamiliar with cooking? No problem! Ready to take it up a level? Right. Everything sounds tasty, the photography is gorgeous. Great resource.

It was hard to believe that a cook book inspired in a game will have good recipes. I am trying slowly all the recipes and I am not disappointed.
So far I did this recipes:
= Holiday Spices (this spices were perfect for all my holiday goodies)
= Crispy Bat Wings (delicious)
= Soft Banana Bread (This was the best banana bread that I have taste)
= Gingerbread Cookies (loved the cookies but i had to use another kind of icing because i had troubles doing the one from the book)

Translating this one was partially fun and partially painful. Fun because the usual restrictions of translating WoW names were cut loose. I could combine English and Czech however I wanted. On the other hand, the texts repeat so much (what a surprise in a coobook). It's not a mistake of course, but sometimes it was difficult for me. Despite this, I must say that Monroe-Cassel wrote a fine WoW book. You can actually feel the magic of Warcraft in this one. The easter eggs are well-used. I pre-ordered this cookbook and have made multiple recipes as well as tried all of the spice blends. I will admit upfront that I'm a huge fan of World of Warcraft, and I'm decently proficient in the kitchen, so your personal mileage might vary despite me giving this a 5-star review.

For me, this was definitely a fantastic go-to for great eats during the holidays. Those who are fans to the franchise, you'll find a variety of the holiday recipes for Brewfest and Winter Veil. It also brings forth some of the classics such as all of the mage goodies like Mana Buns and Dalaran Brownies. Not to mention it gives us some notable drinks such as Kungaloosh and Honeymint Tea. One of my personal favorites is the Mulgore Spice Bread that pairs great with some honey-whipped butter. I actually learned how to make eggnog from scratch with this book, and haven't gone store-bought since!

What's nice is that the recipes are fairly flexible, and they're all proficiency ranked using the game's icons and lexicon. You can make any tweaks or adjustments if something doesn't hit the right note on your taste buds. For me, I like things heavily spiced, so I changed up some of my portions on the eggnog to suit my preferences. Be warned, however, there are not a lot of recipes for Novice cooks. The instructions are decently written, but there were a few process changes I made on a few to either make things more efficient or actually work (ie. Honey Bread).

If you're a Warcraft fan that loves to cook, this is going to be great staple to your kitchen collection! ...more
