When Two Knotty Boys, Dan and J. D., began teaching rope
bondage together in 1999, they discovered that most people learn best
when they're shown — close up, step by step, and repeatedly —
how to tie basic knots and combine them into bondage techniques. It is
this learning process that they duplicate in this book. With the help of
world-renowned photographer Larry Utley, they use over 750 photos and
captions to explicate the soup-to-nuts techniques for turning great
knots into great bondage that is safe, sensual, attractive, and
effective. Readers can learn at their own pace, review whole techniques
at a single glance, or even lay it flat on the table (beside their
blindfolded partner) and follow along as they tie. Two Knotty Boys
Showing You the Ropes
appeals to those interested in improving the
quality of their sex lives, not to mention aficionados of bondage and
discipline/sadomasochism (BDSM), both curious newcomers and serious
players alike.

This is the book that has been missing!!!
At last, the Two Knotty Boys have given us the book that will allow people to easily understand how to safely incorporate rope bondage into erotic fun. Granted there have been other texts published on erotic bondage, some have been better than others, but none had all of the elements needed. The "boys" got it right.

If you are in the least bit interested in rope bondage, you must get this book. Look at the price, it's a steal. I actually feel bad about paying such a low cost for such a valuable asset. At $16.95 the 37 step by step techniques comes out to .46cents per tie. You'll look great as you tie them and the knots are fantastic looking. Oh, and the person tied will be comfortable, safe, and helpless. What more could we ask for.

The "boys" have a perfect background, a industrial rigger, a climber, both backgrounds require safety as the basis for everything. The both love bondage and have taught many, many classes. This means they have learned how to teach the techniques to hundreds of others. It shows in the layout of the book. Simple step by step photos that match the written instructions. No matter what the level of the reader, this book will make you better.

Don't wait, get this book now. You will not be disappointed. If there was an award for BDSM books, this would win book of the year.

Great job, destined to be the definitive text on erotic bondage!!! 5 stars..at least.

Good, but mainly contains ambitious, highly decorative ties.
**Intro**
This book is slightly oversized and 73 pages long, making it about the size and shape of a special edition magazine. It is full of lots of black and white...er...shades of gray shall we say? ;-)...pictures that are about 1.5" square each, and show step-by-step instructions on how to do different rope ties. Some of the ties are pretty complicated, and one or two of them have on the order of 50 steps! The models in most of the pictures are super attractive, and most of the ties in this book are highly decorative and intricate. Apart from being B&W, the photos are high quality.

**Advantages**
There are a wide variety of ties here. There are a few ties for preparing partners for sex, and more for dominating and humiliating partners, decorating partners (and yourself), and also a few for basic restraint bondage. There is also a pretty large section about decorative knots that are complex enough that I haven't been patient enough to try them, though they do look really awesome.

**Disadvantages**
It would be more fun if they had some color pictures inside the book. The only color photo is the front cover. It bothers me a little that they used hardware store grade nylon rope for all of the ties shown in the book, but I think they did this for the sake of contrast in the B&W photos, and it does prove that everyone can do fancy stuff with cheap rope. They talk about how to prepare rope ends in the beginning of the book, which is excellent, but I was a little disappointed that they didn't explain how to do the palm and needle method. The methods that they do show are almost too obvious, and not very suave (taping the ends or melting the ends). Another thing with this book that may leave some readers dissatisfied is that most of the ties here are slanted toward decorative purposes, and are more elaborate than some people will have the patience for. A distinct portion of bondage enthusiasts are looking for simpler ties to use in preparing/restraining people for sex. If this is you, consider getting other books, like the ones by Douglas Kent or Bondage for Sex by Chanta Rose.

**Conclusion**
This is a good book, but if you are interested in getting a well-rounded pragmatic introduction/overview to bondage to get started off with, or if you are more interested in using bondage together with sex with your lover, you might want to start with other books instead. This isn't a bad book, it's just that there are even better ones for those purposes. On the other hand, if you are more into decorative bondage than restraint or sex bondage, then purchasing this book is indeed a good idea.

If you buy this book, or others about bondage, remember to have fun, be safe, and remember, consensual is sexy!!!

This is a great book.....KNOT!!!
I bought this book to help my wife get over her fear of being bound and placed into small areas during the act of lovemaking and when I tire of her blather. After using the methods described in the text, I ended up lashing her to my work desk with burlap twine, but one end of the twine ended up getting caught up in the ceiling fan and she was thrown clear across the room. This tipped over my work desk and spilled some very important papers concerning my World of Warcraft guild resources all over the floor. It took my wife hours to sort through the papers, and with a dislocated arm to boot.

Obviously I'm not a very happy camper right now and I think we'll stick to our rubber hats, ear funnels, and pudding slaps.

Bit disappointed
The pictures and steps in this book are excellent. However I was somewhat disappointed by the books content which concentrates more on the authors own style of rope work rather than more traditional shibari rope ties I was expecting. If you are after more intricate knots and ties and not the traditional shibari then this book is excellent. However if you want to learn the more traditional shibari ties perhaps look elsewhere. It's a well done book but depends on what particular style of rope work meets your needs.

Great Book!!!
If you are wanting to learn to do rope bondage correctly get this book. The book starts out with some basic rules that everyone should know. After going through the basic need-to-knows it goes into some basic knots that will prove to be useful throughout the remainder of the book. Then comes the fun stuff...great ties from shackles to body cages. All of the techniques are broken down into step by step instructions and have great pictures to go along with the instructions. I actually went to a rope study with a local BDSM group recently and was complimented by the instructor as well as many of the other students at how nice the ties looked. If you are interested in this subject it is a must have.

10/10
This is a really great guide for beginners! My partner and I appreciate the amount of detail that went into both the descriptions and pictures in this book. It's really funny too. Some of the more advanced knots are very time-consuming, but the simpler ones are really fun and fast. The steps make it easy to memorize so you don't always have to look at the book when you're trying to have some fun. Plus, the Amazon price was half of what we found it for at our local store!

so it's not for the heat of the moment (although you may get better at that too)
This is a book for artists. The techniques described take a long time to learn and tie, so it's not for the heat of the moment (although you may get better at that too).

Don't bother with the Kindle edition on a phone. This book depends on many pictures to show the knots. Its very hard to see on a phone, especially when you need to look at several angle pictures or before and after pictures.

Easy to follow
Very clear and step by step explanation of the knots, and the knots are very useful, easy to do, and sturdy. I also like the authors' sense of humor in their explanation of knots and their use :) I'd definitely recommend this book for starters (like myself) to learn the art of knots and rope!

Shibari lite by book and on page
Bondage on book was always a bit dodgy for me to take seriously. I studied it for months with my Master. But the book does a great job with step by step photos in black n white to aid in the learning process.

This is a beginners set, because the knots and bondage taught are not difficult. With all my years in dungeon, I would put this as beginner to intermediate.

Overall, I good read for anyone getting started in rope play and rope bondage.

Knot a bad read
Very well written and illustrated. I got the hang of all knots within 3 tries the first time I sat down with this. Obviously these gentlemen understand their craft and articulate it very well.

No color?
It was great information, and I've always been a fan of these guys. I was a little bummed that all of the pictures inside are black and white- and not the best quality to boot. When you get a book like this, it's to try and learn and mimic what is there; you shouldn't have to translate the photos like you're reading ikea instructions.

Otherwise it was a good book.

Humorvolle, nette Einführung ins Thema. Gute bebildert und anschaulich gestaltet, leider schwarz-weiß, kein Manko, da trotzdem gut zu erkennen. Als Einstieg für Spielerisches durchaus zu empfehlen.

There's knot a better guide out there.
This is the Bible of Bondage, Ropes Naughty Novel, The Treatise of Tying. In the age of internet access, this is still the best and easiest reference to reach for, well written and beautifully photographed. I highly recommend this book.

Not the best
Overall, it's an interesting book full of tricks and ties. However, this is not shibari, so most of these ties won't work well with others and are for show. Also, the pictures in the book are mostly black and white and of poor quality.

limited info
I was hoping to find a lot more within these pages for the price. Ok for the most basic info. but really could have included so many more beautiful knotting techniques. I guess that's why there is a second book.

Book Review
Not sure I would buy this particular book again. TKB has several free videos that I found very helpful. The book... not so much.

decent information
Book was ok. Detailed and informative but would be nicer if there were color photos and more forms displayed. I would prefer having paid about half price.

Just ok
It took forever for this book to arrive, well over a week. I find there are not enough instructions for knots and find the sex bondage way complicated.

i am going to sell this book.

Pretty decent, little confusing and vague at some points
Book taught me some fairly decent knots. Although I used the knots and loved some of their ideas, the instructions were vague and mostly unhelpful once you dove further into the book. They would do quick jumps buy saying, just use this knot and tie it into that knot, which isnt too much of a problem, but with majority if the vague instruction its somewhat confusing to follow.

Step-by-step is right. In color photos with clear description and suggested uses of knots. Covers basic knots, how to tie up specific body parts, how to do harnesses, how to knot stuff to other stuff-- kind of something for everyone. Maybe some people have the idea that rope bondage is something to do with learning to rig someone up in an entire piece start-to-finish, but it's more about learning basics and building on that, like any skill. Great and easy to follow book for anyone who wants to get started in rope art.
Lots of illustrations and a very simple no nonsense aproach to this rather complex subject.
Several basic knots with alternatives to make things look better.
And ofcourse how to use the knots in decorative, dominant and sexual bondage.
There is a part on safety and how to care and maintain for various types of rope.
