I happened to tune in NPR one day and this author was a guest. She sounded personable and knowledgeable. Because I have decided it is time to spread my wings and venture out into the world as a solo traveler, this book seemed timely for me.May 16, 2015
This is a very handy guide for how to start traveling solo, with hints and tips for every level of traveler apart from the most experienced, pulling together the author's own experiences with those from others that she has picked up along the way and through her blog. Some of this may be obvious to some (or even many) but it is good that Waugh has covered it all to make sure those that are completely new to any kind of travel know how best to get started. The Solo Traveler Handbook is really engaging and full of helpful, practical advice for solo travelers. I especially appreciated the safety tips and the list of online resources for accommodations and travel inspiration. I highly recommend this for folks who are intimidated by traveling alone and those who love traveling solo but want advice on how to make their trips more memorable.May 19, 2015
The content of this book isn't much different from what can be found on Janice Waugh's blog (solotravelerblog.com), but it's nice to have it all in one place. Inspiring stories, safety tips, and a constant encouragement to just "GO" - this is a great book for anyone even thinking about traveling solo.Nov 30, 2013
The practical information is valuable for newcomers to the solo travel method and the message is clear that experiencing lone adventures in far-off places (or even not so far-off) is an attainable goal with real benefits (as well as risks) and can be very rewarding. But, the narratives and anecdotes were lackluster and read much like boring journal entries.Jun 25, 2016
