Really enjoyed this book. Even though there is a lot of information imparted in the book and it is, it is broken in to many small sections (chunks as I call them), making the book much easier to read. Even though this books was written many year ago (first published in 1963), everything in the book is still true.

I have always been interested in the topic of the of the subconscious mind, to my it is where ideas are born from, where people conscious personality and actions stem from. I like the idea of being able to program it to work more for my in my daily life was intriguing. As the author say our Subconscious is at work 24 hours a day for every day of our lives. Breathing and heartbeat and all our bodily functions we do not give a second though about even when we are sleeping are controlled by our subconscious.

Being quite a spiritual man Joseph Murphy also builds in many biblical quotes with his case studies, and examples of people he had met. though I do not wholly agree internalizing God as part of the subconscious, I do see where the idea id divine knowledge comes from. Example we are bone we breath are bones and organs are formed, we do not know or have any knowledge of this at the time so how does our body and internal functions know how to function and what to do since birth? I do like the idea of the subconscious being a conduit to the divine how many times do we have something in the back of our mind and it comes to pass exactly as we envisioned it. Other thing like instinct and intuition also come from the subconscious.

This is an great informative, easy to read and most of all helpful book. The difference for me between a good and great self help or psychological book is how many of the idea in the book could be used in everyday life, I did not find anything in this book that could not be used in anyone's everyday life. Also it has stood thee test of time already. ...more

I do enjoy self help books - some have even helped, but I'm afraid this is a load of tosh. Perhaps I exaggerate but its showing its age and doesn't stand up to criticism now. Three points...

1. There are far too many biblical references and one begins to suspect there is a religious driver behind this.

2. Can you seriously expect to influence someone else's health with the power of your sub-conscious - come on. Does your sub-conscious mind really heal a cut leg? I don't think so.

I've experienced it myself and thanks to this book, it helped me through my difficult time when I was laid-off from my job, due to a lack of work. I now found a new job, a great job actually. I don't know if this is just a coincidence (I don't believe in coincidences), or is it because my subconscious mind started working for me (affirmative). When I started this book, I thought this was gonna be good. The title was really interesting and I'll admit it was an impulsive purchase and I didn't know the author was a Minister. While I have no objections to that or to anything that's written in the book, I find this book a little too absurd. I am all for meditating and believing and about the subconscious faith but this feels like a book for the lazy. And TBH, this book just straight out defies the laws of medicine at some point!

The only When I started this book, I thought this was gonna be good. The title was really interesting and I'll admit it was an impulsive purchase and I didn't know the author was a Minister. I am all for meditating and believing and about the subconscious faith but this feels like a book for the lazy. And TBH, this book just straight out defies the laws of medicine at some point!

The only solution to everything according to this book is to leave it to god or as is so conveniently called "the subconscious mind" in this book. This book feels like the writer's trying to explain religion in a scientific way without actually giving any scientific explanations and/or even defying the laws of medicine at places!

The only solutions to all your problems is praying or "turning it over to your subconscious mind". Got a health issue? Pray and you won't need a doctor. Got a job issue? Pray and you'll get the promotion! I've read a few Cognitive Psychologies to understand how that really works so while the jist of it correct, it is a little misleading. Trying to get people to have faith is fine but being honest is much more important! Don't tell them they have to pray 100 times a day in order to be cured of a disease, tell them they need to come to terms with it, accept it and you've won the half battle! Tell me when they talk about it with self it leads to the acceptance of the disease which further leads to healing and not that it's the subconscious mind that heals when you impress it with a healthy image.

The subconscious mind of the universe is one, wait what!? No! It's your own actions that are caused as a result of the subconscious or maybe even the conscious decisions towards a goal that makes things come to pass and not others'.

While I respect the contents of this book abiding to the faith or beliefs of people and while I don't mean to refute it, I just feel this book is a little absurd and does nothing except make you lazy. Believing is good, it is the stepping stone to progress but that's not just it.

No offense to anyone. ...more

Basically, the messages we give ourselves and/or messages from parents and teachers etc. for good or bad are filtered through our conscious mind and influence our subconscious mind. This often determines whether we will be successful or get stuck listening to the negative tapes in our heads. It really got me to listen to myself on an inner level.
The awareness of intention, beliefs, what we say and feel toward ourselves and others is of the greatest importance and is often the difference between success and failure. I read this book and it was only the beginning. Many of Dr. Murphy's books have been compiled posthumously through Hay House and they are all very helpful and wise in the teachings, including subjects such as being successful and prosperous.
It's a seminal book that has influenced millions of people and Dr. Murphy's teachings are timeless and very positive. Topics such as jealousy, resentment, anger are covered in his many books. Highly recommended! The affirmations and quotes are very helpful on a daily basis. ...more

- Joseph Murphy, The power of your subconscious mind

The power of your subconscious mind, as is clear from the title, dwells on the importance of one's consciousness and its power to heal, create and make one's life better. The power of positive affirmations and optimal thinking, and how it can work wonders in practical life where one might find themselves going through hard times on more occasions than once.
🌼
The books present various examples of people from different walks of life, who have tapped into the power of the subconscious and found themselves a better life, some who have even cured themselves of diseases.
True, if one puts their heart and soul in a task and overcome a mental block wherein one can see beyond the fear and focus on just reaching the goal, victory is sure to come.
🌼
The writing is easy to read but the examples seemed redundant and sometimes outright unsubstantiated.
I am all for the power of the mind but propagating an idea that a disease can be cured just by constantly thinking about a healthy life over and over again, seems a bit outlandish. Apart from the lack of evidence about the claims that the book makes, I found the underlying idea of cutting off the negative thoughts and focus on the task at hand, really sound.

I enjoyed learning about changing myself from within. The stories were a little too fantastical sometimes.

Main Concepts:
- Change your thoughts, change your destiny
- You become what you think about all day
- You deserve abundance; wealth, success, life, love, health
- Monitor your thoughts; negative thoughts are DAMAGING and hold you back
- Don't expect free lunch; it's only when you GIVE that you receive ten-fold
- One universal mind; praying for others can impact their life just as effectively as I enjoyed learning about changing myself from within. The stories were a little too fantastical sometimes.

Techniques
- Always frame thoughts in the positive; your subconscious doesn't understand the difference between sarcasm, humor, or "don't miss this shot!" vs. "I will make this shot"
- Quiet your mind before you desire or pray; when your tired immediately before bed, the line between the conscious and subconscious is blurred and is an ideal time
- Always be inputting and reenforcing desires; you must feed the subconscious and it'll take care of the rest ...more

This book is an inspiration.
It gives a really sensible approach to having faith in oneself and having faith on our subconscious mind.
This book also tells that the Bible is really referring to the powers within us as god's powers.
(This is also a thing pointed out in Dan Brown's: The Lost Symbol.)
It offers a mild spiritual journey.
Highly recommended.

I do honestly believe that what we think, we can become. I've always believed that whatever I truly need, the universe will provide, and it's interesting to think that my believing that has made it so. I liked the way the analogies in this book made me see that subconscious mind from a different perspective. I just enjoyed the process of thinking about all the ways I could harness my own subconscious mind to alter my life for the better, and become all the things I want to be.

That being said, the overall delivery of the book was a bit off. It's heavily religious, with plenty of references to God and bible verses. The chapter on marriage was a bit of a tough one for me because it's all about praying with your husband/wife and there's zero consideration of atypical unions. That bothered me a lot, particularly with our country set to vote to give homosexuals the same marriage rights as heterosexuals. It's pretty important to me that their rights be recognised by society, so this chapter was a bit of salt in the wound.

There were also a LOT of examples/case studies, and for many of them I found myself becoming quite skeptical. Particularly when people who had never heard of the author were quoted as saying his phrases. There were also instances where a conclusion was left out and I couldn't help but question why. I'm sure there was a bit of literary license happening here but it bothered me that this wasn't disclosed.

All in all, though, I loved reading this. It'll probably be a bit much for non-religious skeptics, but I really enjoyed playing the ideas through in my mind and I look forward to the benefits of using my subconscious mind for happiness and prosperity. ...more

The Power of Pseudoscience crap

You can not win with Murphy. If you get what you 'prayed' for, it shows power of your subconscious mind. If you don't, than you didn't pray right. Subconscious is a very powerful things - this is a sure thing, we all know about placebo for example but it is not something that easily controllable. Moreover it understands more in terms of images than words. And imagining yourself a happy movie as author wants you to do, might make you more miserable when you don't see that happening. I wanted to read the Secret but got the DVD instead and as a Christian and Catholic actually stopped watching it because I didn't think Bob Proctor gave God the credit He deserves in all of this. This book is consistant on the properties of autosuggestion. That is, self-persuasion monitored by wishful thinking, a strong dose of attraction theory and a jumble of contradictory factoids. It relies too much on these elements for me to draw a lot of substantial benefits out of it.

At least, it is easy to remember the key points outlined, as they are relentlessly repeated throughout.

There are 2 aspects of the book, let me try to explain these in my way.

First Aspect: It is true that the mind has ability to control your body & emotion. Evenin situation ofutter pain one can find peacewhereasanother can get depress in peace feeling lonely. Technically your mind has this ability, but now the question is how you control this ability and use it in the way you want…., and the answer is by "Believe".

Once you start believing positively in something and you put all your efforts There are 2 aspects of the book, let me try to explain these in my way.

First Aspect: It is true that the mind has ability to control your body & emotion. Even in situation of utter pain one can find peacewhereas another can get depress in peace feeling lonely. Technically your mind has this ability, but now the question is how you control this ability and use it in the way you want…., and the answer is by "Believe".

Once you start believing positively in something and you put all your efforts and focus to it there are far better chances of you achieving it in comparison to the person who is putting efforts but does not believe in achieving the goal.

Let’s take an example of a competitive examination which is very difficult and only very few people can pass this examination. Now, there are two portions of the mind which author has named as conscious and sub-conscious. Your conscious mind works on logical reasoning and understand things in a very practical manner, your logical mind can see this as very difficult exam as only 2% of the people clears it, every year 2 lac people gets failed in this exam and like this all sorts of logical and practical approach is being used by mind to assess the success chances you have. On the other side you have sub-conscious mind which tells you that you can make it as you have blessing of your mother, God is on your side, your religious guru has also predicted the future and confirmed that you will make it. Ultimately your sub-conscious mind gives you enough confidence to put all your efforts and focus believing that this is your destiny and you will success.

Eventually the person has more chances of clearing this exam if he uses his subconscious mind and hard work together. The author in this book has used various techniques for teaching how to program your subconscious mind so then you can artificially create this believe on, as and when required basis.

But the key to access to subconscious mind is “true” believe (not just ordinary believe) and here comes the superstition in picture. There is a very fine line between true believe and superstition. And it’s very difficult to see this fine line and manage yourself to be part of non-superstition side while strengthening your believe. Like Keep fast, donate money, perform rituals, please religious gurus to strengthen yours believe in God but wait a minute…. Aren’t these all are superstition?

Second Aspect: There are instances where author has referred to the law of attraction (from book secret of Rhonda) where he says that by only truly believing and using your subconscious mind without hard work you will be able to achieve something, and I totally disagree with this. If this would have been true than all sons of mothers would have become Bill Gates and all girls would beenmarried with the boys who had big time crush on these girls.

There are two kinds of people in this world. One which likes the idea of his life being in the divine hand of God assuming that God will always do good for him and another who does not like the idea of his life being in somebody’s else hand and they are more comfortable with the idea of their life's control in their own hand, which type are you of? ...more

I like reading these kinds of books cause they do leave you with a feeling of optimism but I'm also skeptical of the lessons they teach. I mean this book basically tells you to practice mastering your conscious mind in order to persuade your subconscious mind and once you do that the world is open to you.
