Nick Carraway’s mysterious neighbour Gatsby gazes across the
dark bay at a distant green light. As the summer unfolds, Nick is drawn
into Gatsby’s world of luxury cars, speedboats and extravagant parties.
But the more he hears about Gatsby – even from what Gatsby himself tells
him – the less he seems to believe. Did he really go to Oxford
University? Was Gatsby a hero in the war? Did he once kill a man? Nick
recalls how he comes to know Gatsby and how he also enters the world of
his cousin Daisy and her wealthy husband Tom. Does their money make them
any happier? Do the stories all connect? Shall we come to know the real
Gatsby after reading Nick’s account of that fateful summer?

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I didn't really like this book. Felt sad for Gatsby as his friends wouldn't come to his funeral.

I had to read this for school, it wasn’t the edition by the author, it was a more condensed edition. And I am happy I read that condensed edition, but I still don’t feel like I will ever be able to read the regular edition; even though I want to.

This is a very thin book, I only spend about one day seriously finishing reading it. "Great" Gateby and great "American Goldrush". The tragedy of the ambitious young man reflects many people's inner world when America is embracing a fast development time. I can feel the wide energy of New York City from the book in that age. It's kind of similar to the background of "Godfather". Beside that, being honest and keeping neutral is always the theme of traditional literatures just like "Forrest Gump".
