Reviews for The Fast Metabolism Diet Cookbook: Eat Even More Food and Lose Even More Weight:

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
First off, let me start by saying that I normally don't post too many reviews about the products I order. Not because I like or dislike the product (unless I get absolutely shoddy customer service, but that has not been the case with the majority of items I have purchased). I wasn't paid to review this product or try the diet, nor do I know anyone who is affiliated with the company. I'm simply just a chubby woman who was looking for a reasonable, realistic diet to shed some unwanted pounds. I bought the book along with the cookbook (and have subsequently ordered other "Fast Metabolism" cookbooks from other vendors- some good, some not so good).

The book is a quick and easy read and despite knowing quite a bit about nutrition, contained some good information that was useful to me. There are a couple of inconsistencies with portions and food lists, but you do have to implement SOME common sense in its use! The additional cookbook is handy because it gives you a lot of other meal ideas so you dont geel like you are stuck eating the same types of things over and over again. It does take a bit to get in a rhythm of how and what you should eat. I found myself frantically chopping/buying/wasting food until I I figured some things out on my own and now it is much easier.

My biggest suggestions are to eat the same things (or just change up dinner) and both or all three days of the appropriate phase. I am simply not bothered by eating the same exact things on Day 1 and 2, and again on Day 3 and 4 but I change it up a little on Days 5, 6 and 7. I also found it is easier to eat the same dinners throughout the subsequent weeks so I have to cook less. I actually bought an upright freezer because I had so many leftovers and I find it is a complete joy not to have to cook some weeks. I also had 2 crock pots going at one time, while I was on a cooking frenzy and that also helped. Someone posted on these forums 9and believe me i read virtually all of the reviews prior to odering) that the caloric intake is pretty low. I didn't put everything on my tracker but I am pretty sure it is low. Eat another salad or a bunch of steamed veggies if you get hungry. I took my array of multivitamins and supplments so I know I am not lacking in any nuttrional value. if you were a skinny minny and could eat whatever you wanted you probably wouldnt be interested in this book anyway.

I didn't struggle too much with this diet, mostly because I spent nearly a year on the quasi Paleo diet; gave up bread, refined sugars and paid a lot of attention to what I was buying/eating. For me the Paleo diet has some great concepts but not all of them I want to live with on a sustained basis. For the most part I wasn't fantasizing about what I couldn't eat and for the most part didn't feel like I was going hungry. Phase 1 and 3 are great, Phase 2 sucks a little and I did get sugar and bread cravings but I also found my weight loss was the greatest during this phase. Plus it is only 2 days so you can gut it out!

Let me re-iterate that I am a total foodie. I love food, I love to eat, I love my adult beverages. I love cheese, aged meats, butter, a good crispy baguette and the occasional fried or junk food. I am also 42 years old and look at a french fry and it goes straight to my hips! I look forward to indulging on a pizza and some wine at the end of my fourth week on this diet! I also know that I am going to start back up on again or at least adopt a variant of it, because it has actually worked for me. My goal is to lose 30 lbs just so you get an idea of where I stand with expectations.

Now for the results. I am nearing the end of week 3 of this diet but actually couldn't wait to post about it because I am actually impressed. It is actually week 5 but on the Saturday of the second week I took a staycation, went out to see a live MMA fight and knew way before I started the diet that I was going to go off of it for those 2 days. At the end of that second week I had lost 8 pounds. Now when I say I went "off" the diet, let me explain: that Saturday I had a 3 course meal of thai food, 2 glasses of wine, 3x 24oz. stadium kegs beers and a plate of shared french fries from the venue of the fight. I continued on through the evening by indugling in a few more beers and then switched to some vodka/lemon drinks washed down with fried potato skins, nachos and topped off with a wobbly street vendor hot dog! Not exactly moderation you might say! I ate regular toast and bacon the next day with my IHop breakfast and probably crammed a couple of other food items that are not diet efficient that following Sunday. Obviously my stomach wasn't very happy with me and I gained back 5 pounds. So the way I look at it, I was only down 3 pounds in 2 weeks. I started over and I have been very, very good (thankfully the next MMA fight is at the end of my fourth week, so pizza and wine, here I come!) I have lost 9 more pounds, for a total of 12 lost in 5 weeks (with the cheat).

In my opinion and many other health practitioners, an average of 2.5 lbs./week weight loss is healthy. To expect to lose 20 lbs. in a month is pretty extreme and besides the diet says you can "lose up to 20 lbs." in a month. You have to be realistic! I am very happy so far. My clothes are fitting better and most days I have decent energy. We also have to take into considerarion that I didn't do a couple of things that are required. I NEVER did any of the workouts, which I really should and Im sure it would help more, but I don't need to explain the reasons why I didn't to anyone. I am also terrible about my water intake. While I forced myself to drink more than I usually do, I certainly didn't meet my required daily intake, which would certainly help with some slight hunger issues and flushing stuff out. The other thing I struggled with was eating within 1/2 hour of waking up. I simply can't do it. I get up at 04:30 every morning and Im just not hungry until around 08:00. So a hint here is to eat your snack for breakfast and then eat your breakfast for your snack - not so much food that early. What I ended up doing was ordering all 3 phase shake mixes from the Haylie Pomory web site. They certainly aren't cheap but they also are not evil tasting and sorted out my eating 1/2 hour from waking up requirement. I also ordered some of the turkey jerkey in bulk from her web site, since it is very expensive here in Hawaii and I spent a lot of time making a few batches in my own dehydrator. This has worked out well for me. I love the breakfast I get to eat on Phase 3 (egg, tomato and avocado on sprouted bread) so I probably could do without the Phase 3 shake, havent been drinking it much. Next time I will just buy Phase 1 and 2.

Like any healthy way of eating there is some effort required on your behalf as well as some diligence. Like I also said, it takes a bit to work out your eating habits and how you are going to arrange to eat and when (I get called into multiple meetings and don't always get to eat on schedule either). Don't expect miracles either because nothing is going to give you that. If you cheat on your eating, the only person you are cheating is yourself. Speaking of cheating, I sure am looking forward to that pizza and wine next week (and I am sure my stomach will pay as well) but I also plan to start back upon the diet for another go until I get down to my desired weight and then I will try and be reasonable about what I eat. It took my 9 months to lose the 40 lbs. last time with just calorie counting and I was a slave to my food. Comparatively, I am making great progres with this diet and I am extremely satisfied. it is going to be different for everyone - just remember, if you lose about 2 pounds a week you are doing really good actually. Be realistic!

I hope this helps with anyone considering the diet - I am happy with it and the results. I even bought the book and cookbook for my Mom who needs to lose a few pounds. I am looking forward to her starting it with the opefully the same results that I have gotten!

My doctor thought she had the wrong report when she tested me after being on the FMD for 3 months. Cholesterol was >400, now 135. Trigylcerides >400, now 92. HbA1c was 6.0, now 5.2. Lost 30 pounds in 4 months. I am a believer.

The recipes are great and the book is an easy read
The recipes are great and the book is an easy read. I lost my goal of 20 lbs using the book and the App. It took 2 months but I didn't do any of the workouts. Went from 148 to 128. I followed the diet as suggested the first 28 days then for the second round I introduced wine on the weekends and still lost weight. It works, but takes a lot of prep and organization but if you really want to lose the weight you'll stick to it!

Doesn't feel like I'm on a diet
I have lost 35 pounds so far. Only 50 pounds to go! The book is written beautifully with a touch of humor here or there. She explains the science behind the diet, the foods, & the human body and it's metabolism. I have never been able to stick to a diet before this one. It's easy because you see results each week, you never have a reason to feel hungry, & you only have to exercise 3 times per week (of course you can exercise more if desired).

It Really Works
If you follow Haylie instructions you will loose weight. I've lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks and will start on the next 20! It is more of an eating life style change and not a diet. I am 65 and loosing weight has been extremely hard to loose until I changed my eating habits.

What A Bunch of Nonsense!
I purchased this book for the recipes mostly and I like to read a lot but this book went straight back. Adrenals? Food maps? Are you kidding me? What a bunch of bologna!! The basic premise behind this method is that your metabolism will magically "come to life" by the constant variety of foods that you eat (it's always healthy to eat a variety of foods) but make no mistake, portion sizes and calories are what matter for weight loss. The author claims calories DO NOT matter and that you'll be eating tons of food (she means unlimited veggies???) Does this sound familiar? It should because the ONLY thing that matters for weight loss is consuming LESS calories than you burn. THAT IS IT. That is the basic recipe for losing weight and it's very hard to do no matter what "diet" or "method" you use; this never changes and it never will! There is no magic bullet to weight loss which is what most people want to hear and the author really delivers that in this book. Here's the formula: eat less than you burn and your body MUST use what it has stored as fat for fuel...this means you'll lose weight. It's simple but not necessarily easy.
Another thing the author suggests is drinking ridiculous amounts of water - like half your body weight every day?!!! Seriously? In my opinion, this is really really dumb. If I drank that much water, I might as well live in the bathroom! Listen to your body and just make sure that you have enough water to stay satisfied and hydrated.
Pleas don't fall for this silly gimmick! It's a waste of time and grocery money. You'll never stick with something like this...it's completely ridiculous. Your money would be better spent buying portion controlled containers, which work extremely well for weight loss. 21 Day fix or Piyo are good portion controlled food programs although I don't do the workouts much because I prefer Jessica Smith. I do use the containers and I've already lost 3.5 pounds in 7 days and it was effortless - very, very simple. If you're looking for other healthy cooking options the Mediterranean "diet" is a great and easy option. (Whole 30 has some awesome healthy meals too although I don't agree with all the restrictions on that program either!) Save yourself the headaches and stress and don't bother with this approach...

this cookbook was remarkably bad. The recipes look good upon reading them
NOTE: This review is for the Diet Cookbook, not the actual diet - the jury is still out on the diet, I'm only beginning week three.
I am sorry to say, this cookbook was remarkably bad. The recipes look good upon reading them, but they are bland, bland, bland. And she adds sweetener to a stunning number of dishes that should not require sweetening - clearly a product of the "everything needs sugar" world of cooking to which I do not belong. I have tried breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack recipes and of the 14 recipes I have tried from this cookbook there is only 1 - !ONE! - I would prepare again, the Chicken Coconut Curry. I literally threw away four dishes made from these recipes that had multiple servings because I couldn't choke it down a second time, they were so inedible. The best use of this cookbook is as a reference for how to cook for this diet, not what to cook. My recommendation is to modify recipes you already know and like, because there is almost nothing here that is fit to eat. I still have hopes for the actual diet. Hopefully it is an effective plan and she just isn't a very good cook. I have found blogs where other people post recipes for this diet that are much, much better.

None
I returned it. Not for me. Complicated, uninteresting recipes. Nothing sounded good and there was nothing I wanted to cook for my husband. One has to be a real health person to love these recipes. I'll just stick with my organic cooking.

Yuck!
The recipes I tried in this book were horrible and frankly, inedible. The wild rice and egg white breakfast patties for phase 1 were a disaster. Even the chili was horrible. The chili recipe in the book calls for oil free tomato soup as a base, which ended up a sloppy mess. The same recipe on her website indicates crushed tomatoes for the chili instead of tomato soup, which seems more reasonable. There is an insane amount of prep and cooking for this diet. If the food was good it might be worth it, but what a disappointment to spend all that time and money and end up with piles of slop.

JUST DO THIS - THE BOOK IS A JUST A REPACKAGE
Yes, I bought it. Yes, I read it. Yes, I followed it. Summed up: Stick to the "no's list; eat every three to four hours; 2 days carb/fruit; 2 days veggies/protein; 3 days a reasonable mix but keep calories around 1800 for men, 1200 if you are a small framed woman like me. Keep portions to 4 ounces protein, 1 cup fruit, minimal fats; 1/2 to 3/4 cup grains; lots of veggies and drink your water. You will lose the same amount of weight and as long as you eat often, your metabolism will be fine. Good for her she managed to find a new package for an old product.

All hype. Another scam.
I'm a college grad and worked in healthcare 40 years. This diet and cookbook is ridiculous. Outrageously expensive to buy the ingredients and impossible to find time to cook the stuff! And I'm retired! Impossibly confusing and a great way to gain weight not lose it. Returned for partial refund.

My Go To Healthy Clean Eating Cookbook!
My sister and her husbank and my sister in law all started Haylie's Fast Metabolism diet around the same time and were all very successful at losing their weight. The cookbook was the key. When they told me about it I could not wait to try it too! They talked alot about the cookbook and how yummy and easy the recipes were, so I went onto Amazon on my phone and bought both books right then. I have been using this cookbook for 3 weeks now and its so simple to follow. Although I have to say some ingredients are not normally in an everyday kitchen, however some are becoming a staple in mine. As we get a little older, our metabolisms get sluggish and it becomes very hard to rev it back up again. Haylie is so knowledgeable and takes the guess work out of making healthy recipes come to life! Definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to eat clean, rev up that fuel burn and feel great again.

Takes too much time and money to follow this diet, imo.
a few words of caution to those considering this diet: you will need to spend a lot of time and money to follow it, as it requires you to eat more, and more often, than is normal, and spend loads of time preparing your meals of primarily organically-grown fruits and vegetables. You are also required to drink a lot of water: half of your weight in pounds, in ounces of water. So if you weigh 200 lbs., you need to drink 100 oz of water, over 3 quqrts, in addition to any other liquids you drink. If you love coffee or tea, be advised that caffeine is forbidden ( I couldn't find the reason for this exclusion). No wheat, dairy or alcohol, either. After reading the rules, I realized I couldn't do what was required, or spend the way more time and money i was willing to invest, so I never tried the diet. Too bad I had to buy the book to find that out. The hype was very effective in getting me to buy it. Best wishes to you whether you try this diet or not. If you do, you'll be spending more time in the toilet, too. :- )

A lot of common sense, but in order to do the rotating diet it would take a lot of time/planning that people who work full-time don't necessarily have. I will try to implement some of her advice.

Interesting book, some of the recipes are great. Very self promoting and not realistic to follow for life. Rather extreme. I also joined their facebook group for a while - many of the members are fairly obsessed. This is a stringent eating plan - eventually most of us will go off plan. I did lose 16 pounds on this diet but could not tolerate it for more than three months. I did learn a bit about nutrition but have chosen to maintain on a more balanced, realistic eating plan.

I got this book from the library because I was getting tired of eating the same recipes from the author's previous book "The Fast Metabolism Diet". While there were some recipes in this book that I tried and liked, I found that most of the recipes were more complicated and less appetizing than the ones in the previous book. She uses a lot of ingredients in this book that I don't have on hand and are a bit expensive to buy. So I don't see myself making a lot of these recipes. I didn't do this diet, because I'm worried about the consequences to my body. The idea of going 4 days a week without any fats doesn't sound pleasant or safe, certainly not for me. Our constitutions are uniquely different, and mine tends toward the dry side. I have dry hair, skin, and I tend towards constipation. I need my fats, more than most people. Plus, you don't even use the fats for cooking. Using broth to sauté veggies is one thing, but I don't want pancakes cooked in broth.
