Want to learn about your birthday, yourself and your destiny?

No?

Well, how about an insight into that of a fictional character?

I love astrology, horoscopes and tarot.

Not so much for how they relate to me but for how I can use them to help shape my characters. The Element Encyclopedia of Birthdays takes every day of the year (including the 29th of February) and gives an insight into persons born on that day.

Whether or not you believe in this sort of thing, it is a wonderful thing to contemplate Want to learn about your birthday, yourself and your destiny?

Not so much for how they relate to me but for how I can use them to help shape my characters. The Element Encyclopedia of Birthdays takes every day of the year (including the 29th of February) and gives an insight into persons born on that day.

Whether or not you believe in this sort of thing, it is a wonderful thing to contemplate when you are creating your characters and possibly choosing their date of birth.

To put the book to the test, I took a few birthdays of fictional characters to see what it had to say.

9th January

Severus Snape detests mediocrity. He is prone to lose his temper. A nap from time to time would do him some good. Sensitivity toward others isn’t scheduled to improve until around the age of 42.

1st July

Indiana Jones is charismatic, adventurous and intelligent. He is impulsive and always ready to help someone out. His own worst enemy, he should try to be in control of the situation instead of letting his impulses run away with him.

18th August

Percy Jackson is sensitive and feels the need to guide and protect others. Once he matures and sets his mind to something, he can achieve it. He is able to gain plenty of friends but needs to take care not to get wrapped up in his emotions.

1st September

Artemis Fowl is obsessed with his work. He likes a challenge but his refusal to give in can hinder him. More laughter in his life would benefit him. Regardless of his age, he will accomplish his goals.

22nd September

Bilbo and Frodo Baggins share the same birthday. The two of them are hardworking, intelligent and a little eccentric. They can be restless and feel the need to make something of themselves. Relationships are important to them but later in life they become more able to rely on themselves.

Those are just a few snippets. Of course, I can't vouch as to whether these are accurate traits of all these characters. What are your opinions?

I find it lots of fun to look through The Element Encyclopedia of Birthdays. In addition to giving information for each birthday, it gives some information on astrology and tarot.

I’m glad to own a copy of this book and I recommend it to anyone interested in choosing the right date of birth for their own fictional characters.

I bought it on sale with the Borders closure, but I have to admit that I've been really amused with it as friends birthdays come around. And I'm a bit worried that the description of my birthday was right on target.

This is a fun book to read and to bring out when friends come over. Also some of what is in the book I found to be true.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Most of the information you find in the book is accurate. And I appreciate most all of the work they did and time they took to go through every day, month and year and write profiles for each.

This is a fun book. It really describes each person on the day they were born. It gives you good and bad. I haven't found anyone that says "no, that's not me."

This book is interesting, particularly the elemental and astrological information. I enjoyed reading the personality profiles as well, but was not at all surprised that many of them didn't completely fit the people that I know. Nonetheless, I'm sure I will refer to this book time and again, so I plan on keeping it for a while.

This book was oddly insightful! I came to some realisation about myself and my family. Somehow it was very accurate...the good and the bad. I gave this book four out of five stars because I wish the Cheung wrote a disclaimer stating that her book was a guideline and not set in stone. I found it to be very interesting and used it to get to know my coworkers a little bit more as a guideline.

I doubt anyone reads every single birthday but, like most, I have read the birthday of my family and a few friends. We were all very surprised at how much the descriptions fit the person, even things they did not want to acknowledge about themselves. Two pages per birthday is a much longer length than most astrology books. All in all, it is great fun! If you have the money for simple fun, it can be quite worth it.

Please don't make the same mistake I made a few years ago. Having had the print version of the book, but wanting to consolidate my offline bookshelf, I thought I'd read this book easier if I found it on my Kindle. However, when I found it, a few days ago, I found it just as boring and tedious as I did when reading it via the print version. It's not a good book to read cover-to-cover, and I ended up reading it for only dates that correspond to people's birthdates I know, and although I found some information that seemed like it corresponded, after a certain point, this book seemed to dive another way and went off-kilter. I'm not an astrologer or palm-reader or Tarot card person (or similar), but it seemed like these predictions weren't too true in some cases. I mean, I tried to finish as much as I could, but it was just horrible to read. I liked that each "chapter" was short, but the information contained and the chapter set-up into the table of contents of my Kindle for iPhone/iPad was terrible to scroll-through and with the "locations" being so long of a book, this was just this long-worded book.

And what about those sections in the "chapter" that were just a listing of three characteristics of where these people excel and aren't excelling having been born that day, when all the rest of the chapter was written in paragraph form? Not too enjoyable to read.

You could just about read the introduction then look through the rest of the book sporadically then move on to your next book without problems, but this one wasn't keeping me interested at all. ...more

This book has a pretty good explanation for each birth date. Of course some may say it doesn't fit them, but I would say it's pretty close to all of those who's I read in my family and friend group

Everybody's birthday i read left me so excited at its accuracy. Helped me much in developing myself and discovering my own basic theme translated into a human understanding.
