"He was dark, she was light. He was anguish, she was innocence. He was wrong for her in every way, and yet, when she looked at him, his entire world felt right."

Another great book from the LOTU series, finally we get Reyes's story and it was awesome :)))

Danika is still on the run from the Lords, and now even from Hunters who are trying to capture her.
Aaeron's demon has taken over him and wants nothing else than to kill Danika's entire family, so Reyes and the other Lords have to keep him

Danika is still on the run from the Lords, and now even from Hunters who are trying to capture her.
Aaeron's demon has taken over him and wants nothing else than to kill Danika's entire family, so Reyes and the other Lords have to keep him restrained until they figure out how to break his bloodlust.
After Lucien finds out that Hunters have taken Danika, the Lords decide to free her, and Reyes takes her under his protection.
Even though there is a possibility that she's actually a Bait, Reyes doesn't really care and he protects her from everyone :)
The real plot starts when they find out Danika could be the key for finding the lost artifacts and the Box.

Danika is willing to do anything to save her family, even if it means betraying Reyes and the Lords. After so much time on the run, she's made sure she is able to protect herself the best she can.
She has a special ability (I guess all of them do), and it is something she isn't aware of, but what could be the key at finding the Box :)
Anyway, she is drawn to Reyes and feels safe with him, even though he's one of the Lords, and after finding out which demon he has inside of him, she wants to be the one who takes care of his pain eheheheheheh

-------------------------------

Well Danika is a great character, I really liked her :D
Oh and my favorite parts with her were when she was jealous ahahhaha that was awesome, and later on when she wanted to hurt Reyes while having sex because that was what he needed :))) (view spoiler)[the knife in the shoulder scene was epic ahahahha (hide spoiler)]

He is possessed by Pain, and only feels pleasure when he hurts himself.
For months now, he ca't get Danika out of his head, and is obsessed with protecting her from his friend Aeron who wants to kill her.
After rescuing her from the Hunters, he can't stay away anymore :D
His demon wants Danika as well, and he's afraid he'll get her hooked on giving and receiving pain like he did with his previous lovers, but Danika wants to give him everything he needs, awesome woman that she is :)

-------------------------------

I loved Reyes, I really did, from the first book and in all three so far :)
Most of all I love it that he's so smart! OMG I was so glad when he figured some important stuff pretty early on and all by himself!
The scene when he's (view spoiler)[in the bathroom masturbating with the help of a knife, and she catches him ahahhahahha (hide spoiler)] OMG best scene in the book :DDD

“Hate you,” she said, wishing she meant it.
“I know.” He whispered directly in her ear, his warm breath traveling inside. “Sleep now, angel. You are safe. I will allow nothing else to happen to you.”

-------------------------------

“I did come here to find a woman,” he said.
Danika bit the inside of her cheek, blood filling her mouth.
“I found one,” he added.
Motherfucker! The curse echoed through her mind, white-hot, searing. “I’m so glad,” she gritted out. “ I hope the two of you had a fun time.” I hope she gave you an STD and you both die from it!

-------------------------------

No one threatened her family and lived. And Reyes was her family.

Well, these books just keep getting better and better, and I'm really glad for it :)
This one was great, the story pretty interesting even though there wasn't much happening until the second half of the book, but still :)
The romance is amazing, Danika and Reyes are a great couple and I loved the slow build of it through the book :)
Aeron is still "meh" for me, but I'm thinking it'll get better in the next book because of what happened here :)
I have a suspicion about Torin and (view spoiler)[Cameo, in the last two books they were spending a lot of time together and even laughing!! And she is very protective of him and he of her. I am very curious how their relationship will work :)))) (hide spoiler)]
William is awesome, a great side character :))
And I am probably the only person ever who has read this series but doesn't fell a thing about Paris/Sienna relationship.
I don't know why, I feel bad for him, but I don't really want him with Sienna, nor do I buy the whole love between them, well him only actually.
I guess I am weird that way.
Oh, and I can't wait for Gideon's book!!! ahahhahaha that one is gonna be awesome, I'm thinking :DDD
I think that is it hmmmm

Anyway, really liked this one, can't wait for all the others :))))

The Darkest Pleasure takes place right after The Darkest Kiss (I didnt re-read nor review the latter because I actually re-read that book not too long ago) and its book 3 in the Lord of The Underworld series.

This is one of my favorite instalments that, not only has likeable MCs but also introduces us to a few new characters that will play important roles in the future. It also gives us an inside on how the Titans operate and what Cronus really wants.

Reyes and Danika, as a couple, truly work in my opinion. I think they’re very compatible and they bring the best out of each other. Danika shows Reyes the good and kind and the love and Reyes does the same but he also gives her a bit of the darkness they both can tolerate and enjoy and that’s great. I didn’t have a single issue with them nor with the plot.

I also liked the rest of the Lords and William and Ashlyn and Anya. I never once doubted their role in the book and I’m thirsty for some girl-bounding, man.

Paris, Aeron and Sabin were the ones that developed the most in this book and it’ll be interesting to see how the author will make them grow.

I’d say this book is one of the strongest of the series because it gives what it promises. It accomplished exactly what it meant, closed the deal with the main couple and helped the plotline as a whole and I’m very intrigued by Danika’s powers. I can’t recall if they’re explored later in the series but she might as well be the most powerful of the artifacts because, if she could incapacitate a god, she could transport them to hell, right? I’ll be extra careful from now and see if they mention something like that.

Demon Pain and Lord Reyes are Frenemies. Unfortunately they have to share the same body.
Luckily Reyes cannot die, because Pain is definitely pushing his limits. Thirsty for hurting, Reyes endures the most excruciating circumstances.

He lives for the thrill of pain:

...he jumps from high buildings,
...he cuts his flesh deeply,
...he inflicts self-mutilation,
..he bleeds and bruises and breaks his bones.

When he recovers, he starts all over again. No pain is enough pain.

Jump, Pain said. Then, more insistently, Jump! Jump!
“I told you. Just a few seconds more.” Once again Reyes glanced at the ground. Jagged rocks winked in that bleeding moonlight, the clear puddles surrounding them rippling in the wind. Mist rose like ghostly fingers, summoning him closer, wonderfully closer.
When Danika is sent as a bait from the Lord of the Underworld’s enemies (i.e. the Hunters), the last thing she expects is to be mated to the Lord of Pain and to become one of the Lords’ allies. The only thing she wants is to save her family that somehow is tangled in the Lord’s war.

Reyes will fall in love with Danika with the only way he knows:

She clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth. “Do you want me to hurt you?”
She sounded incredulous, yet he realized that’s exactly what he’d been pushing her toward. He wanted her to jump from the bed and attack him. He wanted her nails deep in his skin, her teeth deep in his neck again. He wanted pain. From her. Only her.
And Reyes and Danika will be smoking hot together!

He inhaled deeply, taking every molecule inside his lungs, branding himself with her essence. “This means nothing,” she said. “Less than nothing,” he lied. “I’ll hate myself later.” “I hate myself now.” She opened her mouth to reply, but he swooped in and swallowed the words.
This is definitely the most sensual and passionate book of the series. ...more

5 Hurt so good Stars

The first time I read The Darkest Pleasure I gave it 4 stars. I don't remember why it wasn't a 5 star read for me, but this time I loved it so much. So I am changing my rating to 5 stars. God the fact that he didn't pick to help his friends and almost picked a stupid bitch he didn't even know for more than a few hours while she was kidnapping him and drugging him. For real I lost some respect for Paris.

On the other hand I loved how protective and sweet Reyes could be. I thought Danika was strong and brave. I love that she never gave up. She was very relatable. Reyes and Danika together were hot. I love that Danika was willing to do what she needed to please Reyes. She didn't think bad of him, and she didn't let him push her away for her own good. I also think it's cool that Danika was (view spoiler)[ the all seeing eye (hide spoiler)] the fact that they almost killed her wow. They would have really messed up. Overall I feel like this book didn't go as slow as the last one, and I enjoyed the plot a bit more. Can't wait to read the next one.

He was possessed by a demon, and yet he had the heart of an angel. The contradiction delighted her, and she suspected she could happily spend the rest of her life learning his nuances—and there would still be more to learn.
The Darkest Pleasure is the third book of the Lords of the Underworld series, the story of Reyes, Keeper of Pain, and Danika Ford, a human woman with an incomparable ability.

Danika first appears in book one, The Darkest Night, where Cronus commanded Aeron to slay her and all her family: sister, mother, and grandmother. No one knew the reasons of Cronus, but Aeron resisted the order. At the end of The Darkest Kiss Reyes locked Aeron away, who was lost in bloodlust by then, to keep the women safe. The Ford women now are hiding in the US separataly from each other.

At the beginning of the story, Danika is attacked and captured by Hunters. Reyes rescues her, but she blames the Lords for being in danger.

Reyes
“This is starting to feel like a damned circus. Can’t a man do a little sulking and self-mutilation in private?”
Reyes can’t experience pleasure without pain. Furthermore his demon has a bad influence on his partners making them hurt others. Though Pain reacts to Danika in a unique way, Reyes is afraid to ruin her, so he tries to resist the temptation. I love this protective and tender side of him very much.

From the beginning, his heart had recognized this woman as his. Like the demon, she was part of him, a part needed to make him whole. Her courage delighted him. Her teasing way, now that he’d experienced it, tempted him. Her willingness to help him despite everything that had happened touched him.
Right here, right now, she was his. A ticket out of hell and into heaven.
Danika
Danika is haunted by dreams about death, screams, macabre, pain, and blood since her childhood. She tries to get these scenes out of her head by painting them afterward.

She is very determined to protect herself and her family, she wears the angry, hard, tough girl image. Though first she blames the Lords for being in danger, soon she realizes that the Hunters’ fanatic hatred toward the Lords is unjustified.

Every time she spied him, hate should have filled her. Hate and rage and violence. But every time she peered into the dark fathomless pools of knowledge and pain that were his eyes, she experienced…something else. She drowned, pieces of her dying then quickly reforming for him. Him. Not her family, not her own survival. Him.
What I liked the most about her is her heritage by her grandmother. How brilliant is to make (view spoiler)[her one of the much-wanted artifacts, the All-Seeing Eye! (hide spoiler)]

The story
The quest for the artifacts and the war with the Hunters go on. I loved the all the appearances of the other Lords, as well as William’s, who seems to be attached to the team by now.
“Shit. They’re like locusts,” William said. “I mean, seriously. Bugs. There’s probably a hundred of them out there.”
“Scared?” Sabin asked.
“Hell, no. I think I just came.”
The most heartbreaking scene is Paris’ choice. I love him so much.

3.5-4 Cut Me Deep Stars!
This is the third book in the Lords of the Underworld PNR series. The story of Reyes and Danika.
Reyes has the pain demon inside of him. The only time he feels any kind of pleasure is when he hurts himself. That is until he meets Danika in book one.
Aeron the keeper of the wrath demon has been summoned by the king to kill Danika and her family. The brothers took matters in their own hand and locked Aeron up so he couldn't do as the king requested. This leaves Danika and 3.5-4 Cut Me Deep Stars!

Aeron the keeper of the wrath demon has been summoned by the king to kill Danika and her family. The brothers took matters in their own hand and locked Aeron up so he couldn't do as the king requested. This leaves Danika and her family on the run. They spit up and never stay in the same place for long.
Danika is working at a diner. Hunters know Danika was captured by the Warriors and they want to know what she seen while there. Danika puts up a fight and she kills one of the hunters. While packing up her few belongings to run Aeron finds her. Of course Reyes is there to stop him and tells her to run. Reyes then chains Aeron up far in the ground. Aeron is so close to hell that he makes a friend. Legion is a demon minion. He/She loves to play games with Areron. Legion also seems to calm the wrath demon. I loved Legion!
While on the run Danika is captured by the demon hunters. They want to use her as bait to get information from the demons. Danika is confused with what to do because she can't stop thinking about Reyes. How he saved her. The hunters finally convince her to help them after filling her with lies. Does Danika help the hunters or does she finally admit to herself that she has feelings for Reyes? Does Aeron break free from his chains again and succeed at killing Danika and her family?
Why not a five star you say? Well...there was a lot of re-telling of the two previous books in this one. I skimmed a lot during the first 40%. I'm sure it would of been a great thing if you were reading these when they first came out. It would of been a nice refresher for you after a long wait. But me...I was bored with it because everything was still very fresh in my mind. I wanted to get to the good stuff. Haha!
I love how in each book we get chapters on the other warriors. My heart is breaking for Paris! I had tears in my eyes when he had a decision to make. Then I was yelling yay!!!
The ending in this one seemed a bit on the perfect side to me. But also left me wanting more. I'm happy to say I will be moving on to the next book. I can't stop now. lol They are off to Egypt!! I can't wait to see what's in store for the fierce Sabin the keeper of doubt! His story is next:))

Although this series had a shaky start, I am really loving it. Heck, I'm a sucker for Greek mythology, so that helps. Throw in a tortured hero, and the battle's practically won. But, really, these are good stories, and I could tell that Gena Showalter is finding her groove. This series is much darker than her Atlantis series, and quite violent. But then, it's about Immortal, demon-possessed warriors. Comes with the territory. These books are also very steamy. Not too steamy, though.

But then, it's about Immortal, demon-possessed warriors. Comes with the territory. These books are also very steamy. Not too steamy, though.

Reyes was very tortured. I mean, what a curse! To have to hurt oneself to feel pleasure, or to maintain one's sanity. In a way, it was almost sickening for me, to see him carving himself with knives and hurting himself, relishing being horribly wounded by others. There was a bit of an ick factor there for me. Having said that, I was okay reading this story. I think that this was an iffy story, but the execution was well-done. I'm so not into that painful/pleasurable sex storyline, but I kept reading. I was glad that Ms. Showalter managed to keep most of that out of the sex scenes. Otherwise, oh, I would have been way out of comfort zones.

I loved how tender Reyes was with Danika, even when I didn't think she deserved his devotion. I tried really hard not to judge Danika, knowing that she was just being a human who was in a rough situation. But, I thought I would hate her forever when she started working with the Hunters. I was crying, "No. That's so wrong." In my mind, it was. The Lords didn't hurt her at all. They let her family go and protected her. Yes, Aeron was off his rocker, but it was clear that they were going to do their best to protect her and her family. So, I was on the edge of hating poor Danika. It was a see-saw with me. I was glad that Reyes was aware that she was considering betraying him. With his eyes open, I felt better about his willingness to show her such loving, selfless devotion. A girl can only be so lucky. In the end, I was okay with Danika, although I much prefer Anya and Ashlyn. Reyes loves her so much, I can't hate the girl, after all. And, I ended up liking the reveal when it came to what Danika truly was.

This series is building nicely. I am eager to read about the other Lords' stories. My heart goes out to poor Paris. I hope he is able to get a happy ending. It was great seeing Lucien and Anya, and Maddox and Ashlyn in their gushy lovey-dovey-ness. I loved all the smart alecky comments and sarcastic quips from the gang, as well. Anya makes me laugh, her and William. Lucien is sigh-worthy. I just love him. Gideon cracks me up with his lies! Sabin made me want to slap him in some scenes, and feel very sad for him in others. I hope she writes a story for poor Cameo. Maybe there will be a man who can love her despite the misery she inspires in those who hear her voice and see her face. The Hunters got on my ever-living nerves. Initially, I didn't like them as the main villains at all. But it turned out to be a solid source of intrigue, especially with the developments with a former Lord. I liked that Ms. Showalter took the Greek mythology and took it in a novel direction by focusing on the Titans.

Honestly, this would have been five stars, were it not for my intermittent dislike of Danika. Otherwise, it was an enthralling read that I found hard to put down. After this one, I'll take a break and read something else, so I don't run out of these books. But, I'm excited to continue this series. ...more

"He was dark, she was light. He was anguish, she was innocence. He was wrong for her in every way, and yet, when she looked at him, his entire world felt right."

Και κάπως έτσι, οι Άρχοντες του Κάτω "He was dark, she was light. He was anguish, she was innocence. He was wrong for her in every way, and yet, when she looked at him, his entire world felt right."

“This means nothing,” she said.
“Less than nothing,” he lied.
“I’ll hate myself later.”
“I hate myself now.”

Pain laughed giddily at the thought, for love brought its own brand of torment. Lots and lots of torment. In the heart, the soul. Both causing a physical ache too intense to be relieved.

Every time she spied him, hate should have filled her. Hate and rage and violence. But every time she peered into the dark fathomless pools of knowledge and pain that were his eyes, she experienced… something else. She drowned, pieces of her dying then quickly reforming for him. Him. Not her family, not her own survival. Him.

“Legion hissed like a startled cat, the noise scraping at Reyes’s skin. “Me no boy. You think me a boy?”
Everyone stopped, stared. Even Aeron. Reyes was the first to find his voice. “You’re a…girl?” A nod. “Me pretty.”
“Yes, you are.” Reyes exchanged a glance with Lucien. “Beautiful.”

...more

God, what to say. Guilty pleasure to the MAX? Naughty bits, interesting concept, a little too much dominating possessive male action, but...whatever. :) Tiring of the "hot immortal guys living together who start being picked off by understanding females one at a time for crazy # of sequels" books.

THE DARKEST PLEASURE is book 3 in the fantastic and addictive Lords Of The Underworld Series and this time it's is all about Reyes, an immortal warrior cursed after opening Pandora's box and ever since bound to the demon of pain. We've been waiting since book 1 to see Reyes's unrequited love for Danika reach its foregone conclusion and Showalter doesn't disappoint.

As in past books this is an ensemble piece, involving the continuing stories of past immortals and their now mates, as well as those Demons yet to have their stories told. Rather than distracting I found all these characters only added to the story in a very `Brothers' living in the mansion kind of way. I love the bantering between the warriors who at the same time respect each others torturous curses. This dysfunctional family unit continues to change and grow, all the while maintaining their constant search for Pandora's Box and fighting off the ever threatening `Hunters.'

Reyes is kinda sexy but he's been cursed with the demon of pain. To avoid hurting others (and feel some pleasure himself) he must satisfy the demon by either releasing it during a fight or self inflicting pain. I.e. cutting or stabbing himself, although he has also been known to jump off the roof of a building just to feel his bones break and hear the demon purr.

Reyes was introduced to Danika Way back in The Darkest Night and he's never been able to forget her. She unfortunately was targeted by Cronus the new King of the Titans and along with her family sentenced to death. To make matters worse it was Reyes's best friend Aeron ordered with upholding the death sentence and the longer he's kept from this task the more bloodthirsty his own demon Wrath has become. In fact Aeron's become so crazed that he's been locked in the dungeon where he's trying to chew off his own hands to escape the shackles. Reyes can't bear to see his friend like this but he can't allow Aeron to kill Danika either and will fight him to the death if need be.

Meanwhile Danika remains on the run, now separated from her family she fears that they may all be dead and in an attempt to find and protect them strikes up a deal with the `Hunters' allowing herself to be used as `Bait' against the immortals. Once inside the castle walls however her resolve starts to fail. Something draws her to Reyes, this man who warms her skin and haunts her dreams. He has shown her nothing but safety and kindness and she has come to desire him, demon and all. Reyes in turn is pretty much useless, unable to concentrate on anything except getting Danika into his bed and keeping her safe from the bloodthirsty Aeron. Now if only he could figure out where Danika's loyalties lie and why Cronus wants her dead they could all live happily ever after.

This was a great read and anyone invested in the series won't be disappointed. Besides the love story there are some excellent sub-plots. (Paris's story is getting progressively heartbreaking *sigh*) My only regret here would be the surprisingly mundane love scenes. Given the subject materiel I guess I expected a little more, I mean pain=BDSM right? Unfortunately (or fortunately?) Reyes wants to keep things gentle and not exploit Danika's dark, kinky side. At times I also felt bogged down with too much Greek Mythology and history but all the same can't wait to read the next instalment. Cheers

The Immortals made a horrible mistake of killing Pandora and opening the box. As punishment for the evil they have unleashed each warrior was sentenced to carry one of those demons for all eternity. They are - Violence, Pain, Death, Disease, Disaster, Misery, Doubt, Promiscuity, Defeat, Lies, Secrets, and Wrath. Angry with the Gods the Lords wreaked havoc killing anything and everything allowing their demons to take over. They are then banished to Earth. A group of humans rose above the bloodshed and called themselves The Hunters. Hell bent on punishing the Lords for every wrong that has ever been caused. After killing Baden keeper of Distrust, they realise that they cannot kill a Lord without unleashing the demon into the world. Both sides learn that they need four godly artifacts to find Pandora ’s Box to entrap the demons again. Time is now running out with the Titans have taken the throne, the Hunters are growing and one by one the Lords are learning to trust others besides themselves to help win the war.
Who will find them first.
Lords. Gods. Or Hunters.

Name – Reyes
Hair colour – Dark Brown hair
Eyes – Chocolate
Demon – Pain
Tattoo – on chest and neck
Things to know- Has deeply dark skin, but is covered in scabs from him frequently cutting himself to please his demon, he has been known to throw himself off buildings to gain pleasure.

Name – Danika Ford
Things to know- an artist on the run from Aeron who has been demanded by Cronus to kill her and her family.

THE LOVE STORY

Danika has been on the run ever since the Lords kidnapped her and her family, told them that Aeron has been commanded to kill them and then they were set loose and told to run and hide.

So she is doing that, her family has split up and is all over the USA. She is working in a diner living pay check to pay check cash only. She has befriends a 16 runaway girl Gillian aka Gilly who also works at the Diner.

Danika and her take self-defence classes together, Danika has a crazed Lord trying to kill her, and Gilly has her own reason for the classes.
She can’t stop thinking about Reyes and how he came to her rescue when Aeron did find her. He jumped Aeron and told her to run. She did. Now she hates herself for wanting him.

She is attacked at the diner by 2 hunters. She holds her own and makes a run for it. One of the hunters catches up with her though. She kills him.

She wakes up in a room with Dean Stefano. Kinda like the 2IC of the Hunters. Dean tells her what the Lords are- Demons and Immortal.
We learn of Dean’s hatred of the Lords.

One of the Demon’s seduced my wife. She was pure and right and never would have betrayed me on her own. Yet somehow, some way, the very demon spawned who tricked her into bed convinced her that she was evil, that she needed to die. So she killed herself, -- We do find out which Lord this was in the book.

He also convinces her to spy for him. To be bait. To relay all the information she gets on the Lords for the hunters. She agrees too as after all the Lords are Demons and they are evil..
right?

Reyes barges in and rescues Danika from the Hunters. He knows she is bait. But he wants her. He has to save her from Aeron. She is his. She just doesn’t know it yet. He is determined to protect her and make her fall for him.

”How am I to keep her safe when the King of gods, every demon in hell and all the Hunters want a piece of her?” - Reyes inner thought

Together they go off and try and find her family. They also realise what her art means and why it shows heaven and hell.

SECONDARY STORY

Reyes has buried and chained Aeron next to hell, as per Aeron’s plea. He does not want to hurt the Ford women but the curse Cronus has put on him is making him crazy.
While being buried a demon minion comes to him. Her name is Legion. It is short, up to his navel and covered in green scales. A child, who wants a friend and wants to play.
I giggled so much at everyone’s reaction to it being a girl lol

Paris is still sleeping around but is pining for Sienna. Cronus offers him a deal, he will bring Sienna back for him or he will cure Aeron of the curse he put on him. Who does Paris choose?

Lucien and Anya are disgustingly in love still.

Ashlyn and Maddox are still expecting

Do Cameo and Torin have a little something something going on?

We also find out who the “boss” is of the Hunters.. It’s Galen an ex- lord. The one who convinced them to open Pandora ’s Box! He is the keeper of Hope. The hunters think he is an Angel.

Gilly comes to live in Budapest with the Lords at Danika’s request. Wonder if she will end up with anyone? She is only 16 though…

MY HONEST OPINION

I didn’t think this had the strongest love story that I have read yet. It was more like Lust. I did like how Danika wanted to hurt Reyes and how he didn’t want her too. He also called her Angel awww…
(view spoiler)[ the whole when climaxing being teleported to heaven made me giggle! I was like really? And then when Reyes actually spoke to an Angel gigglefest 2012 at the stupidity of it! (hide spoiler)]

The secondary story was good and I love it when all the guys are together and paying each other out. The banter cracks me up at times. I can’t wait for Strider’s story!

Quotes/Convo’s/Thoughts I liked

”I don’t want him here, woman,” Lucien said “He must leave.”
“I put up with your friends every damn day,” she pouted. “You can put up with mine for a week at least.”
“Your friend tried to kill you.”
“That’s the past. I hardly remember what I did five minutes ago, much less a few weeks.”
- Anya and Lucien about William moving in.

*************

Paris had to close his eyes for a moment. I want one of those. I want a “mine”.

*************

“When you do, just remember that he is a warrior with a tortured past you cannot even imagine. If you want him, you’ll have to fight him.”
“Don’t you mean fight for him? Fight for him?”
“Oh, no. You’ll have to fight him. He won’t surrender to his feelings easily. Good luck. Remember, no running or you’ll regret it.”
--Cameo and Danika…. In my opinion one of the longest convo’s Cameo has had! LOL

*************

“Shit they‘re like locusts,” William said. “I mean, seriously. Bugs. There’s probably a hundred of them out there.”
“Scared?” Sabin asked.
“Hell, no. I think I just came.”
--William and Sabin

*************

“Sabin,” Gideon called. “Shit I’m not here for you man.”
“I totally believe what I’m seeing. Fucker was not caught by our favourite friend and his feathered wings.” Pop Pop. Gideon emptied his gun until there was a click click click. “Great! Nailed him!”
- I love Gideon speak! (He is the keeper of Lies and can’t tell the truth! It’s fun to decipher! Lol)

*************

“Reyes stop,” she said. Unable to keep the laughter from her voice. Hi fierceness had returned full force. “No one called me easy.” She loved that he was wiling to destroy anyone who might have, though. “Just wanted to make sure you knew. I’ve only dated a few guys seriously.”
“Shall I kill them?”
“Why Reyes, I think that’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
- Danika and Reyes

*************

“Legion hissed like a startled cat, the noise scraping at Reyes’s skin. “Me no boy. You think me a boy?”
Everyone stopped, stared. Even Aeron.
Reyes was the first to find his voice. “You’re a…girl?”
A nod. “Me pretty.”
“Yes, you are.” Reyes exchanged a glance with Lucien. “Beautiful.

*************

“Yep, that's me. I know. I know. You're humbled I'm here, feel like throwing rose petals at my feet, blah, blah, blah. No need, though. Just try and think of me as a normal guy

It's easy to see after reading this one that Showalter and Harlequin have big plans for this series. We finally meet the shadowy leader of the Hunters, and his identity is quite the surprise. We also find another of the artifacts needed on the quest to find Pandora's missing box. We learn a little more history and a little more about the scope of the battles to come. But mostly we learn about Reyes and Danika.

Reyes' past was very difficult. Learning about the history behind his efforts to leash Pain was, well...rather painful (no pun intended). The lengths he was willing to go to in order to spare humans-just wow. All he wants is a respite from Pain, a little peace where he doesn't have to leash his demon. He finds that in Danika, but fears that having Danika will expose her to the taint of his demon, and he's very unwilling to do that. So he can't keep her and he can't let her go either.

Danika always wanted to be normal, but she never was. She can't seem to come to grips with that and I disliked her intensely for almost half the book. But I can say that she redeems herself beautifully and I think these two are a perfect pair.

Neither trusts the other and each of them apparently betrays their loved ones at some point in this book. I really didn't like that. However, haven't we all betrayed someone we love in some way in our lives? I guess that's just part of being fallible and it's nice to know that sometimes our heroes and heroines are fallible too. In all, I think the progression of their relationship was just as it needed to be. Without all the missteps, misunderstandings, and mistakes they would never have gotten to such a strong ending. And the ending of this book is worth missing a few hours of sleep!

Now for my rant. I'm ticked that I have to wait 16 months, yes folks that's November of freaking 2009 for book 4. Books 5 & 6 are scheduled to follow in Feb and May 2010 respectively. Come on already...a year is understandable, but almost a year and a half? Why publish the current releases now? Why not delay their release a couple of months each? I'm actually a tad (!?@#) pissed at Harlequin for this and would be interested to hear their marketing strategy. It would have to be a really good one to risk alienating fans with such a long wait when there are plenty of competitive paranormal series out there without such a long gap between books.

★★★ 3 STARS!

This is the least favorite LOTU but have an interesting story. Pleasure. Yeah, sorry for my perv mind. It was supposed to be sexy and passionate. Unfortunately, it doesn't turn that way. Reyes was a bit masochist. To feed his demon, he needs inflicted pain to himself :(

Pros:
+ Danika is easily likable. She was a victim but she didn't appear like that. She's quite strong and smart.
+ Reyes was so protective over Danika. Such a caveman.
+ I enjoyed their journey. Of course, there are ★★★ 3 STARS!

- The twist didn't really surprised me.

The Darkest Pleasure turns out to be an okay read. I remember skipping some part because it hardly held my interest. I hope the next book will be great like Lucien's because he's the best, for now. ...more

I cant believe I just found out about this series, and its being around for like a decade now. Well its better late than never, cause this series is fast becoming one of my favourite.

This book is about Reyes, it made me realize how little I know about the warrior, I knew he was the keeper of pain and a masochist, I never knew he hated what he is, he hates that he has to cut himself to feel pleasure, not to mention throwing himself off rooftops cause that is the only way the demon will live him I can’t believe I just found out about this series, and its being around for like a decade now. Its just so sad that he does this to himself in other not to do it to others. Dating is almost impossible cause the women always turn into masochist and sadist, despite their former self, that changed when he met Danika.

Danika is one of the women that Cronus wants Aeron to kill, we finally finds out why he wants her and her family dead. I like Danika but not as much as I do Anya. She is not that confident and have low esteem when it comes to Reyes, she should have known that he won’t give himself away that easily. But in the end it worked out.
Anya, Lucien, Aeron,Paris, Sabin etc were also in this book, the search for the artefacts goes on, its a race against the hunters, not to mention Cronus who is on Aeron’s neck to kill Danika and her family.

Reyes, Keeper of the demon Pain, has suffered immensely because of his need to constantly cut himself. He hates that his demon finds pleasure from slicing a blade through sinew and bone. Where others would be shocked and disgusted to witness such a thing, Pain finds bliss. From the very beginning, I was very intrigued with Reyes because of his demon and the fact that he isn’t the friendliest of the Lords. What can I say? I love a tortured hero.

On the other hand, the heroine, Danika Ford has become one of my favourite women in this series. Danika possesses a quiet strength. Though she may think herself as helpless and scared, she has proven her courage and strength in many ways. I loved the fact that she still cares deeply about her family. Typically, once a romance begins, all other storylines are placed in the background where the focus is on building up the relationship. But in this case, the relationship between Danika and Reyes grows stronger because of Danika’s ability to love. Her ties never sever from her family even though they are kept apart. And her link to Reyes doesn’t waver either.

We find out that Danika is the All-Seeing Eye, one of the artifacts that the Lords and the Hunters have been desperately seeking. Dani has the ability to see into the depths of hell and witness the gods in heaven. With this unique talent, she has become a very valuable possession that others would kill to obtain. But somehow Reyes realized how valuable Danika was even before he knew of her ability. One of my favourite parts of the book is when Danika finds the art studio that Reyes had set up for her. It was such a kind and considerate gift that shows how much he cared for her.

Naturally, I was expecting some BDSM because Reyes reacts to pleasure and pain in equal measures. But I think Showalter managed to keep things interesting without going down that route. Because Reyes fears that Danika will fall into bloodlust as his previous lovers had, he keeps himself distanced from her in an attempt to prevent her corruption. However, they both find a way to enjoy each other without the hurt. But if Reyes needs to relieve himself, he should get a hold of the Brotherhood and ask Vishious to teach him a thing or two. Or call UGH (1-800-SHADE) to borrow some gags and flogs.

I just want to mention how happy I am that Paris chose Aeron. It was such a selfless thing to do and shows just how much the Lords care for each other. I hope he gets his HEA soon because he deserves to be happy.

Also, Aeron suffers a lot in this one too. Despite his demon clamouring around in his head, Aeron found the will power to stop himself from rendering the killing blow on Danika’s grandmother.

I can’t say how much I enjoyed this book. It’s one of my favourites of the series and I can’t recommend it enough!

5 stars Paranormal Romance

Darkest Pleasure is the third book in Showalter's scorching hot Lords of the Underworld series. This is my favorite of the series so far. Reyes, the keeper of the demon of Pain, is an extremely sexy warrior/hero. Reyes wants her, but afraid he'll ruin her/won't let her go/but keeps her at a distance/can't wait to see her...all this turns me right off a book.

Black hair dye does not wash out in two shampoos!

I hated the fact that Reyes had to have pain to experience pleasure. Big (BIG) sad face on that alone. His demon was pain. He jumped off a building to experience the pain of shattered bones while the others joked about hiding his internal organs--like they did an earlier time. Yuck.

Top all that with the author using filler to re-tell what just happened was annoying, imo. The author did a fine job refreshing events in earlier books. I've read a "few books" since and it was good having the details again. But, there was no need to re-explain what I just read in this book. Argh!

Throughout most of The Darkest Pleasure, Paris (demon: promiscuity) story gets set up. For me, doubtful I will continue this series. I'm so burned out on paranormal books that they really have to be exceptional to hold my interest and a book about a man who can't have sex with the same person twice (male/female) is a another big turn-off for me. If I don't like the characters, I'm not going to like the book.

Why am I now dying to finish the series?

First, I felt like I got to know some of the other warriors much better. There was also more interplay between one another. With the Budapest group, you really see the bond that they share and the personal sacrifices they make for their fellow “brother.” Also, the two factions (Budapest & Greece) begin rekindling their bond, fighting alongside and poking fun with one another. Though the other warriors got good airtime, I never felt like I was missing out on the story of Danika and Reyes, which coincidently was also great. All together, I just got the warm fuzzies and can’t wait read more about each warrior, particularly Sabin, Gideon, Torin and Misery.

Second, this book provided great color on the history of the Lords and the dynamics of their interactions with the Greeks/Titans. Also, the introduction of a new enemy stirs up the pot and creates some anticipation for what will happen next.

Speaking of what will happen next, I must go get The Darkest Whisper.

Reyes carries Pain, and longs to hurt himself and others. He cuts himself, breaks his own bones, whatever it takes to cause pain and soothe the beast inside of him.

We knew Danika was the woman for him back in The Darkest Night. But he resisted his feelings for her because he was afraid his demon would taint her. Well, that and the fact that his best bud Aeron is fighting a Titan-induced compulsion to kill her. But three books later, Reyes is finally giving in to his desires. Danika's life has been turned upside down since she came under the Lords' radar. She's been on the run, hiding from Lords and Hunters alike. She's been forced to harden herself, to live in poverty. And in the end, it's not enough. Hunters catch up with her and that leads Reyes back into her life, because he must save her.

The couple is thrown together, as Reyes vows to protect Danika and she works to find the rest of her missing family. And even though they're both fighting it, their attraction is undeniable. Now, I know there are a lot of people out there who find pleasure in some degree of pain. And skirting that line can be a turn-on. It just isn't for me. And that put a big damper on the book, because, obviously, Reyes IS Pain. There is one particularly disturbing scene in the bathroom with Reyes and a knife... Suffice it to say, it icked me out.

And yet, despite this, it was a good book. Even with the pain thing, the book was rich in sexual tension, which Showalter plays like a violin. The great world building continues. I felt so much anguish for Paris... sympathy for all the lonely Lords, each with such burdens to bear. These books are sexy romances, but they're also more. In short order, Showalter has helped us grow emotionally invested in this immortal family. And the ongoing story arc is entertaining, exciting, and always surprising. 4 stars.

Okay, How do I review this one when not many people have it yet??? HMMMMM

Okay, this story has been played somewhat in the other books. It just delves deeper in this book. Reyes is the demon of Pain. He has got to hurt all the time to satisfy his demons needs. Danika has had nightmares since childhood, horrid nightmares. After she has them she paints what she has seen in her dreams.
Aeron, Keeper of Doubt, has been ordered by Cronus, King of the Titans to destroy Danika and all of her family.

This story has to deal with trust, love, friendship and sacrifice. From Reyes to Danika, to Aeron to a female demon by the name of Legion, this book tells a great story. The sacrifice that Paris makes for them all is great and hurts him to the core.

Another great installment in the LOTU series! Reyes and Danika were a cute couple and I am glad they finally got together. Although Reyes isn'y my fave Lord he is still a great hero, I only put him under hero-i-want-to-hurt cos I know he will like it!

Apart from the Danika and Reyes parts I also liked the glimpses into Paris and Aeron's mind as well. My poor Paris! I can't wait to see how it plays out with him.
