I, too, was a coffee zombie, walking around calling myself a
coffee lover, thinking that meant I had an obligation to drink whatever
swill was put in front of me. For years I stumbled around in a daze
drinking stale, bitter coffee and grumbling "beans...
beans...". Thank God I finally woke up to the world of coffee.
After Immersing myself in the coffee world via reading every book I
could find and visiting trade fairs, high-end cafes, and barista
competitions, I realized that, while there is a huge amount of
information out there free on the Internet, there was no single resource
that connects all the dots and spells it all out for confused novice
coffee drinkers.
Until now.
Fact: Making a great cup
of coffee requires focus and commitment. This means that to make a
billion dollar for-profit coffee franchise, you MUST find ways to cut
corners and short change your customers. Fact: There are some GREAT
coffee shops out there that care about coffee and customers and are
worth every penny they charge, but they can be hard to identify, making
it easy to just settle for familiar chain coffee.

Fact: Making
very good coffee is NOT THAT HARD. With a minimal investment in time and
education you can make the best cup of coffee you've ever had in your
life in the comfort of your own home. This book shows exactly why
billion dollar for-profit coffee chains are inherently unable to produce
coffee of the quality you can make in the kitchen.
The Coffeeist
Manifesto is half self-defense manual and half how-to instructional. By
the end of it, any coffee beginner will have a foundational
understanding of the coffee industry and know how to identify the good
coffee shops from the bad ones. But most importantly, you'll know how to
beat them at their own game by making coffee at home that blows the
cafes out of the water.

1,5.

Hayal kırıklığımın büyüklüğünü anlatacak kelime bulamıyorum. Kitap vaat ettiği her şeyin tersini sunuyor okura.

...more

Great book about everything you wanted to know about coffee. You will never drink coffee the same way after you read this gem of a book.

This is a wonderful little book, chock full of light but meaningful and useful nuggets about coffee. There are a couple of minor proofreading mistakes, and Ward's generalizations I find to be a bit sophmoric (like the more added non-coffee features a coffee house has, like bakeries, food offerings, etc, the lower the quality of the coffee will be. Not so sure on that.)

Very interesting study of coffee and coffee drinkers, the author encourages each of us to buy and roast our own beans, then grind and brew the perfect cup of coffee. Written for those of us who use a low-tech drip coffeemaker, and/or go to the local coffee shop (Starbucks?) for a 'premium' cup of coffee, Ward keeps his information clear and easy to understand - leading to wanting to try his tips! My major complaint with the book is the terrible job of proofreading - every time a sentence called for "its" or "it's" the default was "it's" - very distracting. But, if you can overlook that (and my OCPD won't let me...) this book is a fun read and full of valuable information. Drink on!! ...more

This is a great book for absolute beginners. If you haven't really done online research into the coffee basics of brewing, grinding, or roasting and you're interested in it - this is a good first book. But I had already done some research and so for me this wasn't quite as in-depth as I wanted it to be. I wanted it to go more into the history of coffee and more detail in some places. But I enjoyed it and I'm considering roasting my own coffee in the future.

This is a 3.5 * really, but I am feeling generous. I did get the book on a free download from Amazon, so I think that has a bit to do with it... I learned a few things, some new things to try, which is always good. Thank you, Mr. Ward, for that. However, I have a question... have you ever been to Tim Hortons? Seriously... if you do, try a regular black coffee and an iced capp.

Very straightforward, helpful book on how to make/find good coffee. There are a lot of things in here I want to try, like roasting my own beans and cold brewing coffee. I appreciate how this book is full of good information, but it's definitely not a coffee-snob handbook--Coffee for the People!

A decent book. A bit basic but still an interesting quick read if you are interested in learning a bit about coffee.

Great information and presented logically. I already knew a lot of this but it helped to reinforce my own findings, and it definitely made me want to try to get into roasting my own beans at home!

Worth a read, coffee lovers. I might start roasting my own beans.
