No childhood should be without the wisdom and wit of Dr Seuss, but this book in particular sums up the hopes, dreams and expectations we have for our children.

Whether your child is 6, 16, 26 ..... It says almost everything you would wish to say about their journey through life.

I bought the hardback version which tells you something of the degree to which I believe this is an absolute classic. ...more

I wish I would've had this when I was younger, it would've saved me from making a mistake or two. I love Dr. Seuss so I may be biased. But, definitely a new juvie fave for this adult.

I loved this blast from the past... I loved Dr. Seuss books as a child. This book took life lessons and answered them with favorite quotes from a handful of Seuss books.
Each quote forces you to remember favorite childhood loves and look at them in philosophical ways bringing new life to them as an adult.

One of 44 children's books he wrote... this tiny gift edition gives us a peek into some of them.
My favorite line found here from the book "On Aging":
You're in pretty good shape for the shape you are in!"
Awesome! Who says it is just for kids?

A collection of excerpts from Seuss's picture books divided into categories such as adversity. loyalty, equality and justice, diversity, respecting your elders, activism, spirituality, aging, being true to yourself, eating, and success. Also included is an introduction by Audrey Geisel (Seuss's wife).

A great gift item, especially for adults.

The most comical advice was,"On respecting your elders... You must not hop on Pop."
I have a t-shirt that says "Everything I know I learned from Dr.Seuss" :0)

A grand collage of Seuss' significantly insightful morals expressed in his ever so humorously quirky way.

Also useful as an introduction to his books -- a multitude of characters and different worlds.

This book comes in very handy (it's small) and you can always carry it with you and you can learn a lot from it. It contains cuts from the various children's books by Dr. Seuss, who is an amazing writer. Adults can relate well to all his books!

I never realized how much advise you could get from Dr. Seuss books until I read this. I also didn't realize that there were some Dr. Seuss books that I have never read, or at least do not remember them.

when I first got it I was surprised with how tiny it is but it was so cute. I thought it would be different and have some more things inside but it was just some quotes from his other books. I was still a great read! it only took me like 3 minutes to read it but worth it. very cute for someone going through some tough times.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I bought a Seuss-ism book for my daughter's teachers to write messages in to present to her with on her graduation day. The beginning of school year I'll ask them to write on the "for those just starting out..." page and on the last day of school I'll ask them to write to her again on the "and those already on their way" page.

An amazing gift for those who are starting out on a journey. I received this as a gift for graduation undergrad and it has brought me so much joy. This book takes excerpts from Dr. Seuss books and complies them with themed lessons we can receive from each book. Love it! Dr. Seuss fans will adore this!

Title: Seuss-isms
Author:Theodor Seuss Geisel
Illustrator: Bryan Collier
Genre:Poetry
Theme(s): Words of Advice
Opening line/sentence: Be True to Yourself- You have brains in your head.
Brief Book Summary: This book of Dr. Seuss poetry is in the normal Dr. Seuss rhyme scheme but all of the poems are words of wisdom or advice.
Professional Recommendation/Review #1: Dozens of advice nuggets ("Think Before You Speak," "Tell the Truth," etc.) are reinforced with lines and images from Dr. Seuss books Title: Seuss-isms

Seuss books (e.g., "A person's a person, no matter how small," from Horton Hears a Who!, illustrates "Never Underestimate the Power of One"). The doctor gives great advice, although this time it's aimed at those older than his typical reader.
Professional Recommendation/Review #2: With a whimsical drawing of the Cat in the Hat s hat and child-like lettering on the cover, this small-format book appears to appeal to young readers. It is published by the Children s Books division of Random House, after all, and the contents consist of illustrations from books by Dr. Seuss, accompanied by one or two stanza-long quotations from various of his books. In her introduction, however, Audrey Geisel, president and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, reveals the book s purpose: to offer advice for living. Despite appearances, this didactic collection of Seuss snippets, packaged as a Gift Edition, is not child-friendly. The material is arranged according to such sub-heads as On adversity and On aging, topics that are not intrinsically interesting to children. On life s mysteries contains the advice Cause you never can tell/What goes on down below!/This pool might be bigger/Than you or I know! Nostalgic adults might find this prescription amusing. Most children, however, would be baffled or insulted to receive this volume as a gift. 1997, Random House Children s Books, $7.99. Ages adult.
(PUBLISHER: Random House (New York:), PUBLISHED: c1997.)
Response to Two Professional Reviews: I do not believe that there is an age minimum or limit for reading this book. Yes, younger readers will need help analyzing the words to find the meaning but that is the magic of poetry. Everyone can interpret it in a different way and all of those ways are meaningful.
Evaluation of Literary Elements: The illustrations in the the book take up a full spread which invites the reader right into the page. The font although is small, is written in a Times New Roman to make it easy to read.
Consideration of Instructional Application: I would read a poem to my class everyday. I would write it on the board and give my students a chance to draw, write, record themselves if we have ipad technology to express how ...more
