Her stunning romantic cakes, in the
prettiest of colors, feature various fabric styles such as folds,
ribbons, embroidery and lace effects. The spectacular gold cake based on

Vincent works with both popular and more
unusual flowers for dramatic visual impact, using large, full-blown

Elegant, but Inaccessible
I ordered this book online, without the opportunity to browse through the pages. There is no denying that the designs have intricate, exquisite details, and the finished products are gorgeous. I especially admire the high-heeled shoes and the violin, both with floral and leaf accents.

However, these cakes are much better suited for display windows than for plates. I am a cake decorator looking for design ideas, and I suspect most brides looking for wedding cake inspiration would not choose any of the designs in this book, unless they had an unlimited cake budget and a preference for very modern styles.

I'm no Colette Peters, but I love her books because at least you can take her ideas and adapt them--create one or two tiers instead of six, or skip the pounds of luster dust and use beads or ribbons. These designs would be extraordinarily difficult, expensive, and time-consuming to make. They're all fondant, with draping and other details that don't translate into better-tasting buttercream. When I look at these pictures, I can't help but be impressed by the details and the technical skill, but for all the elegance, the cakes lack personalized charm.

I applaud the contributers and Vincent for this compilation of distinctive, original designs. I just don't think they're the kind of cakes most people want to make or order for themselves.

I love this book, but....
I love, love, love this book. A bride who I am doing a wedding cake for asked for the "All that Glitters" cake so I went out and bought the book. I keep flipping through the pages. There is only one problem I see with it. Every cake requires many special tools, fondant cutters, etc. This is good and bad since while expensive, it brings the designs within the grasp of newbie cake decorators. The problem is that the desciptions of the tools are not clear enough to easily find them on the web. There is a list of suppliers but no indication of what came from where. The only suggestion I would have would be to have a list for every cake listing suppliers and actual model numbers for the tools.
I'm looking forward to the next book by Kerry Vincent greatly.

Exquisite but Impractical
The designs in this book are exquisite, no doubt about it. But to copy even some of the elements, much less an entire cake, you would need TONS of specialty equipment that could easy set you back hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Unique veiners, cutters, mats, push molds, beadmakers, stencils -- the list goes on and on. And no, you can't duplicate the effects without this equipment. That expense, coupled with the minimum 30-40 hours of decorating work I'd estimate for each cake, puts these designs way out of the reach of all the brides in my area, and probably most of them anywhere. A good book for oohing and aahing, but unless you've got oodles of money and time to burn, not actually useful.

Elegant All The Way
Kerry Vincent opens my eyes on design possibilities of wedding cakes, and how fine a work could be. To all wedding cake decorating lovers, this is a must have! The useful step by step illustrations and full colour diagrams give a clear instruction of how skills and techniques could be performed. Recipes, method of setting up a wedding cake even cake table arrangement is included.
For brides who want something special, than ordinary wedding cakes decorated with flowers only, this is a book that you could get inspired. Perhaps not a complete duplicate of any wonderful cakes in the book, you could definitely find something you will like and you wish to have on your dream cake!

Inspirational and Practical
Fantasy cakes by one of the best, how can you go wrong? Kerry Vincent's artistry is amazing, yet she has solid, practical explanations on how to create these wonderful cakes yourself, assuming you are at an intermediate level of cake decorating. I found that techniques and ideas can be selected, adapted and applied to your own cake project, broadening your knowledge and increasing your skill level. You would use this book even if you weren't making wedding cakes. The large format and beautiful photography may have you assuming this is an idea book, but its definitely a working book too.

lovely
This book is lovely. We have all see Kerry Vincent's work and there is probably nothing in this book you haven't seen already if you have a subscription to American cake decorating or if you watch the Oklahoma sugar art show. This book has a fair amount of insrtuctitons but just know you will have to pick up about 72 different molds and 10 pounds of luster dust to do these cakes! No, seriously.
Cake decorating has come a long way and this book will remind you how far!This is not really my style of decorating but I think it is a good reference and I am keeping it just because, well... it's Kerry Vincent!

Great Book
I love the designs in this book. I also like the details given in terms of supplies needed to make the cakes. I am anxious to try out the designs and hopefully get the same results. I will get my chance in August 2009 with the ocean-themed cake.

Ostentatious and gaudy! She has the audacity to criticize other people's work? The worst cake on Food Network Challenge is far better than any of the cakes in this book.

Pretty Average
Thid book was not what I was expecting. I was hoping for a book that showed me lots of different pictures of lovely cakes that my wedding clients could pick from. What I got was a book that shows ugly out-dated cakes that belong in some other time period that rejected them, and then to top it off - how to make these ugly cakes.

Not at all what I was after and nothing like the description made it out to be.
