Equal parts deadly boring and fascinating. I found the sample situations kind of hilarious, despite the social class assumptions (tennis club, anyone?) All in all, a useful intro to what seems to be a sort of Dungeons-and-Dragons approach to keeping meetings from getting out of hand, minus the dice. To really use RR, though, I'd probably need to hire a tutor.

Look, it's not like I read Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised In Brief because I thought it was going to be scintillating prose, so we'll dispense with any commentary about whether it was enjoyable to read. It wasn't. But if you agree to chair a debate two days in advance, reading this little book certainly beats the hell out of trying to read all of the full-length version. This is hardly something you would choose to read for fun. However, if you have any role in any sort of meeting that uses Robert's Rules of Order, start with this and realize just how simple, and at times complicated, these meetings can be. But, you should read this first and foremost for empowerment. Once you've figured out the mechanics of parliamentary procedure, then you can move on to the fun stuff--making change.

The authors insist throughout that this is meant only as a companion piece and reference to the bunker buster itself, Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (11th edition). I don't think I ever want to attend the sort of meeting where this text isn't sufficient, but I'm known to be a coward.

I have been to enough meetings that are governed by Robert's Rules that I probably know more than I think. Then again, maybe this is the perfect time to actually read the rules.

A good reference point for easy-to-find items. It was purchased for my husband's use as commander of the local DAV.

This book is a good basic reference tool for defining personal conduct as an active participant in public and private meetings, debates, delegate sessions and other events with structured protocol.

I attended a conference a week ago. During it, some parliamentary procedures were reviewed. That kindled an interest in delving into Robert's Rules.

This book was okay. It is an abbreviated version and constantly states it is not to be used as an authority for meetings. It makes me wish I had purchased the unabridged version.

It was a quick read. Most of it will be familiar to anyone who has worked in a business environment. Even so, there is clarification to be found here. Great entry level book for beginners. It gets the reader started on the same style and language of the not so brief version of RONR. Anyone who attends any meetings of any kind should read this.

This a really straight-forward easily referenceable book on parliamentary procedure. Something I wish I read sooner and an essential text for political/government nerds.

Everything it says that it is. Clear and concise that helps figure out 80% of all the cases of Robert's Rules. The bigger 600 page book is good as a reference, but if you're looking to master just the basics of Robert's Rules, this is your go to.

This is a good informal introduction to Parliamentary Procedure. It is an abridgement of Robert's Rules of Order, which although good is not quite as easy to read as is this. The main reason it is useful is because RONR certainly follows Pareto's Law, 80% of the book is only used 20% of the time, and this book is the 20% of the larger volume that is mainly used.
