This is my first foray into the world of Rick Steves and I was pleasantly surprised to find out how much I like his style. His narrative is conversational and blunt. I particularly appreciate his specific comments with how to use your time even within an attraction itself, advising sometimes to skip portions all together based on time. That's helpful! His maps are detailed enough and while they aren't brightly colored or cheerful, there is a ton of good information in here - especially about This is my first foray into the world of Rick Steves and I was pleasantly surprised to find out how much I like his style. His maps are detailed enough and while they aren't brightly colored or cheerful, there is a ton of good information in here - especially about food and places to eat off the beaten path. Although I haven't traveled to Poland before, just reading this book to get a sense of these specific cities (I actually didn't read the Gdansk section, so can't comment on that) was very entertaining. ...more

I bought this book for my husband to take to Europe with him this past October. It's a gem. Small enough to carry and excellent references that are well organized. It is a snapshot of three cities: Krakow, Warsaw and Gdansk. He used the book to navigate Krakow and Warsaw, saving Gdansk for another trip. It was very helpful in his planning to visit Auschwitz. This book provides a brief history of Poland as well as tips on what to do and see in the three biggest cities. I found it useful, and I plan to take it with me on my trip to Poland, but I somehow expected more. For the most part, these are all cursory treatments of places. Its size and weight make it a good choice as a travel companion.

Once again, Rick Steves proves to be opinionated but helpful. I have an upcoming and very brief day in Warsaw, so his detailed walking tours and advice are extremely helpful for maximizing limited time.

Read in preparation for a trip to these three specific cities in Poland. Shall report back on whether it worked "on the ground"!

**Follow up** - It worked really well. Very up-to-date, accurate, and frank information on sights, restaurants, and hotels. Steves's recommended walking tours are always worth trying. My only complaint was about one of his recommended hotels in Krakow (the one we stayed at)--it was terribly noisy 24 hours per day. Other than that, an indispensable part of the trip.
