I love Jack, so I wish I could recommend this book. The information seemed too basic, though; only someone with no knowledge of healthy eating and fitness would find it useful. The plugs for the juicer are off putting.

The dialogue gets a bit repetitive, however he lived to 98 so clearly he was doing something right. Some good simple common sense information. Just read the tip sheets and summaries at the end of every chapter. Especially the stretches & home training. Everyone is looking for the easy magic cure, but its really just how much effort & work you put into taking care of yourself.

Jack Lalanne discovered the fountain of youth instead of merely sitting in it you have to eat fresh foods, and drink clean water, and EXERCISE and you like him will retain a lot of your strength, overall health, and even your hair as you go well into very old age! he's the living example of this. his juice recipies to puree well chosen fruit combinations that can instead of the consuming of more fruits than you would normally eat his juicing machine allows you to quickly consume them and they can as they are now juice be rapidly absorbed into your system.
Jack Lalanne's books prove him to be the very best expert on every aspect of fitness he has no equal. ...more

I think that this was an ok book for someone looking for a way to get off the couch and start getting fit, however, for someone that's already active I don't think it would be very useful. There were two thinly veiled advertisement angles that I didn't like and could've done without, one for his publisher's magazines and the other for his juicer. While I think that some of his twelve steps, such as maintaining good posture and good hygiene, were a little silly, it's hard to argue with a man who I think that this was an ok book for someone looking for a way to get off the couch and start getting fit, however, for someone that's already active I don't think it would be very useful. I'm glad that I read this book, but I'm even more glad that I checked it out from the library and didn't spend money on it. ...more

This guy was the first fitness star in the 50's and I have vivid memories of my mother doing sit-ups at Jack LaLane's televised instruction. I don't think he has received enough credit for his role in starting the fitness craze in our country. For his 41st birthday he swam from Alcatraz island to Fisherman's Wharf. At age 70, he swam 1.5 miles towing 70 boats with a person in each boat, against high winds, while handcuffed and shackled. The guy was a maniac.

The book is still valuable information though some of it is a bit dated ( he explains how you should brush your teeth and shower on a daily basis). He is a classic and a fitness inspiration for the ages. ...more

Only good advice from that book was how to get motivated to exercise and eat healthy: undress, stand in front of the mirror, relax all the muscles and decide if this is the body you want to live with or are you going to do something with it.

Rest was a standard list of exercises (mostly dumbbell ones), list of fruits & vegetables with nutritional value and some modest advertisement for his juicer.

What an inspiration this man is! He lived to be a very youthful (in body and mind) 96 year old. He wrote this book when he was 95. What a truly great role model for living a healthy lifestyle! The funniest quote in the book: "If it tastes good, spit it out!" LOL!

A man who was ahead of his time. Truly a gem. This is a must have for anyone who lives for and strives for a healthy lifestyle. Great References in the back section of the book on fruits and vegetables and all of their benefits.
Motivational and Inspirational! Love you Jack!!

Good motivational, biographical and survey book with general fitness and nutrition information. Great for novices, people who are just getting off the couch after a long absence from healthy living, and people who are looking for a simple and sane healthy living program.

Much as I admire Jack, this book is pretty much aimed at the novice.

You won't knock out 1,000 pushups in half an hour from the programs in here.

Its not at all bad, but there's nothing new in here for a moderately well-read fitness buff.
