A little disappointed...
I absolutely LOVE the JSB. We give one out to every family in our Children's Ministry program. I currently write curriculum for our early childhood classes to go with the JSB, so I was excited when I learned that the curriculum kit was going to be available. I pre-ordered it in August 2011, and was looking forward to it being released in January 2012. When it was finally released in February and had it in hand, I have to admit I was disappointed. First of all, the picture of the product is mis-leading. It says for children age 4-7, but it is not the case. The product I got was different- it said for "early to middle elementary." Quite a difference! There is nothing I can use for the younger students I planned to use it for. I'm hoping that the publisher will eventually come out with a curriculum for pre-school students. The publisher also stated that you would be able to to have access to the artwork- which is not the case. The one good thing that I will be able to make use of are the videos of each lesson...but I'm not sure that was worth the $80. There are also typos in the take home pages...that you can't fix because they are PDF's.

I did this with my kids as a homeschool curriculum a couple years ago and liked it so much I encouraged my husband to purchase it to do with the Sunday School kids at our church. It is FUN, hands on, and gospel centered. Unlike most children's Bible curriculum, which teach morals or that the courage and bravery of the character in the story is the point, this curriculum constantly points kids (and parents and teachers too) forward to Christ and the cross and our need for a Savior. I want to use it again with my younger kids.

GREAT for Children's Church
I bought this for our Children's Church over a few months ago. We are a smaller church with about 8-17 kids each week. We are unable to separate the age groups for our children's church right now. So it's very tough to find a curriculum that works for ages 5-11. But this curriculum NAILED it! It's been such a great resource for our teachers. The only issue I have is you have to print the lesson plans out on your own. However, that really isn't hard to do. That's probably why the curriculum is so affordable though. I'd rather pay less for curriculum and print the materials myself.

I would honestly recommend this curriculum to any children's church leader. The material is so easy to teach and the lessons are laid out in a simple manner. The way the stories are told really helps kids understand and connect with Jesus. It's pretty awesome.

The other thing we did with this material was upload all the files to Dropbox for our teachers to access. I thought I'd mention that in case it helps others out. Now our teachers can access the lesson plans from home without having to share the CD/DVD each week. That way the CD/DVD stays with the materials at our church and doesn't get lost. Anyway, buy this curriculum! It's worth so much more than they are charging for it. I promise you'll love it!

Not Exactly.
I do like to listen to David Suchet read the stories and my children listen to him well. However, my older children notice that the stories are not exactly like the Bible. For example, the author added parts to Abraham and Isaac after the burnt offering where they hugged for a long time and were sitting under the stars that night. It does bug me a little that the stories are not exactly like in the Bible, although I do understand where she is going with the point that Jesus is in every story. Also I agree with the other reviewers that the lessons were not well written and planned. We have decided not to do this curriculum or read the book any longer. If you are looking for preschooler bible stories, this is good. If you are looking for an illustrated Bible for elementary children, this is not it.

Such a Mixed Bag
We are huge fans of the JSB--and have been since my daughter was about 18 months old...I couldn't pass up the curriculum, so we bought it. The videos are incredible. So beautiful and the stories are told so well that it was worth the $90 just for those!
The problem is that the stories are incredibly appealing to the preschool set and the activities are geared toward children who can read. The stories are beloved by my homeschooled kindergartener and our preschool sunday school class and neither set can do the activities. They even understand the underlying teaching that goes with the activities...just can't read or write it down as required.
We have also had some very small "quality-control" issues with grammar, formatting etc...no big deal.
Maybe they could work up curriculum for the smaller fans next time?

Even better than I'd hoped for
As a Sunday School teacher for 13 years I can honestly say this is the best cirriculum that I have ever used. If you're looking at this cirriculum you probably are already very familiar with how wonderful the Jesus Storybook Bible is and how great it is to show children how the whole bible is really a story about Jesus and not just about people in history and moral lessons. I teach at a non-traditional church that meets in the gym of an elementary school and the space we have for the kids to learn in is roughly 10x5 feet. This cirriculum is really suited to that as it assumes you have no permanent classroom so none of the activites require permanent fixtures and they also keep materials and technology to a minimum (which is quite awesome as each of my teachers/volunteers are required to provide all of their own materials). The lessons are full of great ideas and guidance which gives me confidence that it should be easy to use for even the most inexperienced teachers (and also teaching them a few things along the way). The videos that come along with it our beautiful and I find myself watching them for fun. they use the pictures from the Bible in a 3D/Pop up sort of way. I haven't gotten a chance to use a fine tooth comb over the grammar so I can't really comment on the editing. I really believe any Sunday School program would be wise to use this.

Makes me tear up in joy everytime
I have nearly every children's bible recommended and this has been the most helpful to our entire family. I was at a loss about how to explain the death of Christ without first communicating the love of God to my 2 year old. After spending some time in the old testament part of this bible (which tells of the love of God and his "rescue plan" for our redemption), I was able to just simply read the death and resurrection story and he took it as a matter of course! The slightly animated videos are the best part though. The narrator really brings the stories to life, and it's great to see the story after you've been reading it to your little one for a while. Now, as for the curriculum part - It's definitely geared for an older child (7yrs old maybe?). And I was sad not to see any coloring pages or story cards that we could use to act out the stories. It's really just a list of suggested explanations and activities.

Incredible waste of money - confirmed
I am SO disappointed in this! For $5, you get a package of expensive paper with color print. That's all. There is a pretty picture and then "What did you learn about Jesus in this story" with a line for you to write on. A line. Not a paragraph or large box for text...a line. The bottom of the page has the book of the bible and a line (looks like a timeline) that has the book with the following 4 books of the bible and instructions to "discuss with your student the placement of this book in the bible" (not actual quote, but something along those lines). That's it. Nothing more. The back of the page is white. I cannot believe I blew $5 on this. Even worse...I bought the New Testament ones, too.

Honestly, I would recommend a composition book in which your student writes a daily journal of what they learned about Jesus on each day. Truly, truly, I wish I had been able to see this product before buying it.

***Ten lessons later...I'm still irritated that I bought these. We're a homeschool family and we're attempting to use this package to begin our day with Bible study. So, instead of buying the expensive curriculum, I bought the Jesus Storybook Bible and the worksheets. FAIL. The worksheets really REQUIRE the curriculum for instructions. For example, Lesson 10 is a series of random letters, "QXTZHQEXLQQAZMXXBDZ..." and then a series of blanks below for the student to read the secret message...except there is no KEY to start the process! I can only assume that the instructions are included on the DVD or otherwise in the curriculum package. This is NOT a good "stand alone" product that will save you money. These worksheets are lovely and appealing, but often the exercises are worthless without the curriculum. Either skip the worksheets or buy the whole curriculum!

OK, but just buy the book
I bought this to use for a bible study for our kids. We love the Jesus Storybook, book; but the curriculum is just poorly done. Don't waste your money on this one, there are plenty of alternatives out there!

This is not curriculum, it's just handouts
My family fell in love with the Jesus Storybook Bible at least five years ago, so when I was given the opportunity to teach a Lower Grammar History class about ancients, I knew exactly what I needed...JSB curriculum! I was so excited when I found this. However, what I received in order was just a stack of handouts, like what you would send a child home with after a lesson. But there are no lesson plans or activities included at all! I'm wondering based on some other reviews if something is just missing from my order. I was really let down!

Love love *LOVE*
So easy to implement. We use it with almost no prep with our small Sunday School. The Jesus Storybook Bible is itself a wonderful piece of work -- telling the true stories of the Bible with accuracy and in language kids will understand and will make adults consider the Scriptures differently. Sometimes I cry at the beautifully simple and clear, yet profound way Sally Lloyd Jones communicates the equally beautiful truths of Scripture.

The companion curriculum kit has activities, review sheets, and well-chosen weekly verses that further support the stories. The audio for each story is only elevated by David Suchet's narration. His great British accent make listening easy, but he has wonderful expression that conveys each story's wonder.

Most importantly, it helps children to understand how EVERY story in the Bible truly whispers the name of Jesus Christ. Very appropriate for younger readers/writers ages 5-10. Can be modified for younger and possibly older -- the activities are simple and easy to follow yet adaptable to your needs or the children's levels. As a Sunday School Superintendent I have tried and rejected several curricula for overkill but this system gives plenty of help to teach the truth without overwhelming a teacher.

Added later: Even children who have this book at home are drawn in to the lesson plans. I had a child disappointed we couldn't do the next story. This curriculum is useful with little to no prep.

Buy the book, skip the curriculum
Our family and many families in our church love the Jesus Storybook Bible. After using the curriculum for about 5 months now and having taught two of those months myself, I would have to recommend passing on this curriculum. Many of the activities are repetitive and some of the questions asked during the activities are more appropriate for older elementary school age kids. This curriculum simply does not have the flexibility to be used with any group of varying ages or developmental levels. We are already planning to find a new curriculum so this was not a good value at all, even at Amazon's great prices. As the title of the review states, buy the book, skip this curriculum...disappointing.

This seems imcomplete
I expected this kit to include everything I needed to accompany the DVD series I purchased but it only has instructions for the teacher. It references hand-outs for the children in every lesson but those hand-outs are not included. Very confusing!!

Disappointed
I was disappointed with what these actually were. The Storybook Bible is FABULOUS so I hope these would be useful. Each handout is full color and has about 3 questions on it dealing with the story. Nothing that small child (who I feel is the target of the Jesus Storybook Bible) would get anything from. :( I don't think i'll be able to use them at all.

Fast shipping, better price than the store, but the product was disappointing
The shipping was fast, the price was low, but the whole reason I bought this kit was for the curriculum, which I found to be very cookie-cutter and not what I expected. This is my absolute favorite children's bible, and I love how the writer pulls out the foreshadowing of Christ in all the Old Testament stories. However, the curriculum is very run of the mill: a craft, a snack, a take home handout. I was hoping for some great coloring sheets to go with the wonderful artwork in the book.

Disappointing
I think highly of the Jesus Storybook Bible but am very disappointed in the curriculum kit handouts. They are very vague and difficult for the younger age groups to understand the questions. I will say the color and design are well done.

Love the Kit, But need DVD replaced
I am teaching 4th and 5th grade SS at my church. I purchased the whole kit and donated it to our church. The kids are enthralled and we have so much fun learning, worship and praying. The lesson plans are wonderful and I believe the curriculum will help preventing children leaving the church when they are older, which is one of my goals.

The DVD WITH THE AUDIO STORIES and the lesson plans is missing fom my room. What can I do to get a replacement DVD. I do not need the cd’s

Thank you for your help.

Very Disappointed
The Bible itself is wonderful and the narrator for the video sessions is superb. The actual lessons are not really what I expected. They are very academic and cumbersome. Three of the four cds are audio only narrated chapters from the Storybook Bible... duplication and may be an unnecessary addition to the overall cost. In general, this product is overpriced for its value.

Not what I expected
I should have read more closely, this would be great for Sunday School, but these are truly just the take home for the parents to see what was learned in class that day. I was looking forward to having some kind of worksheet to go with each story and this is not that at all!

Ok, but doesn't suit my needs
I thought there would be more to them or that they could stand alone as a resource for using The Jesus Storybook Bible as a curriculum, as I am doing in my Sunday school class. We don't have the official curriculum materials, we are a small church & only have one children's class. There is no budget, I purchase all the materials & supplies myself, so I wouldn't have been able to buy it anyway. I'm taking the story each week & building activites around that weekly. The handouts are ok, for what they are, but I have a wide range of ages in my class & they really don't work for me. it would be helpful if you had the age range they target (6-10). I have anywhere from 3 yrs to 13 yrs. I would not have bought them if I could have inspected them ahead of time.

Great videos, very weak lessons
The videos are the basis for our church midweek program and are engaging and have nice artistry and relatable, accurate, and thoughtful content. We are creating our own lessons for each level to go along with the videos as their curriculum is totally inadequate. It is hard to fathom that the creators have ever used it for a variety of ages or with actively learning kids. The videos are worth the price.

I thought I'd like it more
I love the videos and love the storybook Bible. I also think the teacher's devotional sheet is good. Otherwise, there's not much to this curriculum. The introductory activity is always something active and gets my kids too rowdy--I hardly ever use it. The worksheet at the end is not very substantive. There is not much left to use! I've reviewed other curriculum I liked more at my website: [...]

There aren't enough wonderful words to say about this beautiful telling of Jesus
There aren't enough wonderful words to say about this beautiful telling of Jesus. I'm the children's director at my church and we use this resource for all ages of our program. Phenomenal!

Useful, but not a necessity
These are very attractive, full-color pages, but a bit hard to use. The glossy coating on the paper make it hard to write on them with anything but felt-tip pens. Pencils won't show, and ink pens will smear. Useful, but not a necessity.

Love it
Grew up in a pastors home, married to a pastor, been around a church community my whole life... and I’ve never read a more thoughtful and contextual “bible” for kids. Love it- and my little one does too.
