She has brought her ethereal girls to a coloring book in an outstanding fashion. There are 46 pages of coloring art filled with 55 different images. There are 43 full page designs and three pages which include 4 each smaller designs. It is interesting to get the smaller ones and I appreciate that by doing the publishing this way, I get more to color. The artist mentions that it was difficult to choose which artwork to put in the book, as she has so much to choose from. I think she did an excellent job and my response is – come out with more coloring books! That should solve the dilemma!

The designs are on the right hand side of the book. On the sheet opposite (which is the backside of the previous design), the artist ha provided the name of the artwork and when it was created and for what purpose. She then gives us some background information as to how and why she created the artwork the way that she did. I think this is fantastic. It really gives a new layer of enjoyment to the process of coloring.

I'm torn about the actual coloring. Her artwork is so fantastic, I am tempted to mimic it (though mine would be a pale and less than stellar shadow.) On the other hand, it is fantasy and now it can become my fantasy if I decide to color it my way. Knowing my tendencies, I am sure to color it my way in the end.

This coloring book is printed with designs on one side of the non-perforated page. There is wording (as discussed above) on the back of the page. The paper is a nice heavyweight cream and the book is a standard coloring book size (about the size of a standard sheet of paper.) There is a beautifully illustrated dustcover; however, the inside of the cover is blank where other publishers sometimes print something that can be colored. The binding is sewn so if you wish to remove a few pages at a time, you can do so with a few snips of thread. Each of the designs (including the smaller ones) has a thin framing line around the outside. I really appreciate being given a natural stopping point as it saves me time and ink as well as giving me a more finished looking project.

All of my alcohol-based markers bled through on this paper. None of my water-based markers did. My gel pens did not bleed through or leave shadows or indents on the back of the page. My coloring pencils worked well for their type of core (soft or hard.) My pencils were especially easy to blend with this paper which is fantastic given the style of design. I will certainly be using alcohol-based markers for at least the first layer, so I will be putting a blotting sheet below the page I am working on. My current favorite is chipboard as I can reuse it over and over but you can also use card stock, file folders, or even a few pieces of regular paper (be careful to check how many sheets you need first.) For anyone interested, I will list the coloring medium I used for my tests in the comments below.

Beautiful!
Can't wait to start coloring in this book. My only upset is the 4 in 1 pictures. They may be pretty difficult to color in the details.

Sorry for the double pics. Showed only 1 of each when I created review. Tried deleting them....but that just added more!

MY BLOG: Melissa Martin's Reading List

I have always loved her art, I have some of her figurines as well. When I saw the book up for pre-order on Amazon I had to have it

The pictures inside are amazing. They have a little story of each one of them as well. These are on the back of one facing the picture if that makes sense. So, I take pictures of the page before I color a picture on the other side because my markers bleed through. I'm going to show two that I colored yesterday and the next one in line to color!

Isn't she amazing! I just love her characters :-)

I really enjoyed coloring the one above. The next one is not colored and it has wolves in it (my favorite) I can't wait to color them too!

Well that's as far as I got. I hope if anyone gets this you share your coloring as well :-) ...more

Definitely worth the money!
When I ordered this book I was a casual fan of Jasmine's work. I wasn't sure if I would actually color in the book I ordered because I usually stick to just nature themed items and far away from anything with people. A coloring group I belong to had a skin coloring challenge so I dove into my JBG book and started in on Lily. By the time I had finished I was sold.

The book is beautiful with many images that beg you to use your imagination to play with colors and various mediums. I have so far only used colored pencils, soft pastels, and gel pens for accents within the book but since the pictures are one sided you don't have to worry about bleed through though I would still put a piece of card stock behind what I am colored to prevent that if you are using markers or if you are using Gamsol (or other mineral spirits) to blend. The line art has not smeared when using blending techniques so that has been a big bonus. The paper is nice with a lot of tooth to it so it can handle lots of layers which is always a good thing.

All in all I would highly recommend this book to colorists who enjoy playing with colors, Jasmine's art style, and those who are tired of everything having teeny tiny details all over the place.

I have attached two pictures to the review and will add more as I complete pages.

The BEST Coloring Book You Can Buy!
This is, hands down, the best coloring book I've bought, and I've bought a lot! I was pleasantly surprised at how many pages there was, I wasn't expecting it to be that big. Furthermore, there is only one picture on each page and the paper is nice and thick, so no worries about coloring a hole through the middle of your picture (done that!). Some pictures have considerable details, but there are others that are a little more simple. Considering the size of the book, the number of pictures and the quality of paper, I really would have expected to pay significantly more. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys coloring.

You will fall in LOVE coloring in this book!
I am a fan of Jasmine Becket-Griffith & I am in Love with this coloring book! Anyone who enjoys fair's and such will love this coloring book! Since getting this coloring book & starting my 1st page, I've had no interest in coloring in my other books, I've been enjoying this coloring book so much!
The pics I have provided we're done with Crayola Colored Pencils! You can do so much variety from my Rainbow Bright looking Angel to my Scavengers pic! You don't have to have the expensive stuff to have fun with this book! Unless you want it or have it of course!

Too much for too little
I'm glad I bought this when the price was a reasonable representation of the product ($10). Now that the price has jumped 80% the book is not worth the increase. Not enough pages to warrant the fee. The pages aren't perforated, the paper is not top quality for many types of mediums, etc. The pictures are cute yet the book is of disappointing quality for the cost. A complete understanding of the inner workings of the publishing industry has no merit on the value of this or any product. Even a modicum of knowledge about finance and economics, however, does bear weight.

Update: 2/11/16
Add to that - a snarky passive aggressive comment from the "artist" herself and I'm grateful I didn't put any more money into her pocket. Cyberbully much?

More like a coffee table book than a coloring book. Love it!
Absolutely gorgeous book! The images are stunning and a perfect sampling of Jasmine's work. This feels more like a coffee table book than it does a coloring book. The paper is thick and sturdy, it comes with a sleeved cover, and each photo has an excerpt written about it by Jasmine herself. This isn't a book you want to just scribble color in or give to kids. Of course you can if you want but this seems more geared toward experienced adults who are able to do the images justice. The paper works with colored pencil, alcohol and water based markers, gel pens, and can even hold up to light water color and acrylic paint. It's hands down my all time favorite coloring book

I had seen this colouring book on the internet quite a bit and finally I decided to go ahead and order it. There was something inviting and engaging about the image on the cover that just kept drawing me in.

When it finally arrived I found myself to be a little intimidated by the images but once I got started it is as if the book itself is enchanted and with each picture completed I couldn't wait to start another. Quality art
Incredibly beautiful art book. The art in this book is so beautiful, you'll want to go out and buy quality art supplies in order to do it justice ( I started with crayola color pencils and said I refuse to go any further until I get better goods Haha ) The pages are thick and only on one side, on the other side there are stories about the art. There are fairies, mermaids, animals, goth art, so much beauty. There are no wasted pages in this book, every single drawing is gorgeous. I am very happy with this high quality art book.

Jasmine Becket-Griffith Coloring Book
The Jasmine Becket-Griffith Coloring Book is another amazing coloring book! It's actually the artist's debut coloring book, but I purchased her Halloween Coloring Book first. This one also contains 55 of her Strangling portraits as line drawings for our coloring pleasure. 43 are full page illustrations, and the other 12 are quarter pages (quicker to color, but no less gorgeous and detailed). The pictures range from cute to creepy, and there’s a wide variety of girls. There’s mostly fairies and angels, but there's also some witches, pirates, and fairy tale characters!

The Jasmine Becket-Griffith Coloring Book is very high quality. While it is a paperback, the cover is sturdy cardboard with a nice dust jacket over it. The paper for the coloring pages is very thick, slightly textured, and off white. I primarily used colored pencils and gel pens, which glide right over the pages with no problem. I also used markers, which only leave very faint shadows on the back of the page. However, the pictures are printed single-sided so that’s not something you need to worry about. The backs of the pictures actually have a short paragraph describing the picture on the facing page, which is a very nice touch.

Even though the pictures are single sided, the pages are not perforated for easy removal (probably because of the descriptions). However, all of the pictures have a lined border around them. I love this for two reasons. One, none of the pictures run into the binding! Two, it gives a natural stopping point for the backgrounds. So, if you would like to remove your finished pages, or the page you’re working on, you certainly can since there’s plenty of space between the coloring area and the binding.

If you’re looking for a cute and whimsical coloring book, the Jasmine Becket-Griffith Coloring Book is it! There’s a range of details to suit any mood and coloring ability. Some pages have a lot of wide spaces, some have a lot of little details, many have a mix of details and larger areas to fill in. The girls in the pictures are absolutely adorable and there's several familiar faces among the bunch. It’s easy to let your imagination run wild when choosing colors, or you can always look up the artist’s original work for some ideas.

Awesome! My favorite coloring book so far.
I have 10 adult style coloring books that I color from fairly regularly, and I keep coming back to this one more than my others. I love the unique art style and beautiful details. These pictures have a great balance of small details and open spaces for my style. The paper quality is perfect for using colored pencils and markers. My fineliner markers do not bleed through, though I do put a piece of paper under the page I'm working on just in case. I love that they are all single sided pages, with a small description on the opposite page.

Fantastic images but overall disappointed.
I was so excited when I received this book! I love the images they are so beautiful and unique.

My major issue is the paper...I don't like using pencils and the paper is HORRIBLE for markers. I use high quality tombow markers and they do not blend well at all. Unfortunately the skin tones especially are left horribly scared by streaks...this is a very big pet peeve of mine....due to this I have yet to finish an image until I find a non color pencil solution to my issue.

Lovely, just lovely!
I purchased this at full price at the same time as the Halloween coloring book by the same artist. This book is wonderful. The art has nice clean lines and fantastic paper. Any coloring book junkie can probably relate to the obsession with paper. How heavy it is, texture, smell, even the way it sounds. Yes I smell my coloring books, don't judge me! :) This book does not disappoint, I tested many mediums in it, watercolors, inktense pencils and blocks, acrylics, pencils, even alcohol markers. They do bleed through to the backside, but they are single sided images and I always but a protective sheet behind just in case but the show through is minimal. Fantastic book.

Great art, mediocre paper
Nice pictures, mediocre paper quality. Heavier than standard copy but not quite as good as say a Johanna Basford.

... I feel intimidated to add anything to something very beautiful I should have done my homework with this one ...
This is no fault to the artist but I feel intimidated to be coloring in this book the art work is stunning and I feel intimidated to add anything to something very beautiful I should have done my homework with this one the pages are a nice light tan color but they do not tear out I believe it because of the story being told on the pages.
