Which is worse—a playdate with a girl or no playdate at
all?

A play date with a girl? Froggy is horrified! What will
his friends say? But when Dad bribes him with the promise of a movie
outing, Froggy has to agree, even if he won't sit next to Frogilina. She
might try to kiss him. EEWW! This could be the worst play date
ever.
Children have enjoyed the misadventures of trouble-prone
Froggy in more than twenty books. Froggy just never learns—and
that's why we love him!

Opening: Today we are going to read a book from our class library. We have been talking all week about friendship and we are going to read a story about one of your favorite characters, Froggy. In this story Froggy has to go on a play date with a girl. Have any of you had to play with someone new? Did you end up having fun? Let's see if Froggy's play date is as bad at he thinks it will be.

Opening Moves:
Prompt hypothesizing based on the situation.
Foreshadow the problem of the story.

Rational: I will use this book to help introduce the class leveled library which contains books they can read at their level. I will also use this as an opportunity to create community in the classroom at the beginning of the year. This book will have the students laughing and bonding together when they hear it read aloud! Froggy is a popular book series with children and has many literary devices and elements that are great to teach with as well.

Was this a good book? My niece wanted three readings over the weekend, so I guess it is!

All of Froggy's friends are away for the day so his mom sets him up on a playdate with Frogilina to the movies which does not go the Froggy wants it to. Funny and sweet. Preschool and up

I love this book! Is adorable how at first Froggy refused to have a playdate with Frogilina. I like how Froggy's emotions flip/flop through out the story. Overall, this story has plenty of humor and silliness; a great picture book for children!

My brother loved this books when we used to read them to him as a child. They're cute, and simple enough to keep the interest of little kids.

I hate it when all of my friends are busy on the same day then I have no one to hang out with but my grandma. Love you, grandma!

It really is Froggy's worst playdate. I guess I was expecting something different, but it really is as simple as that.

This series is a huge hit with my 8-year-old nephew.

This story is about Froggy wanting to go out and play. However, all of Froggy’s friends are busy. Froggy’s dad says he will take Froggy to the movies if Frogilina can come with as well. Froggy does not want Frogilina to come with but he chooses to go because he really wants to see the movie. At the movie, Frogilina sat right next to Froggy and kissed him when the princess kissed the frog in the movie. Froggy was grossed out and embarrassed and said he had the worst play date ever.

At the movie, Frogilina sat right next to Froggy and kissed him when the princess kissed the frog in the movie. Froggy was grossed out and embarrassed and said he had the worst play date ever.

Some of the text in this story is incorporated into the illustrations. For example, every time Froggy’s parents yell at him his name turns into an illustration. The word, “Froggy” appears in large, bold, tilted, and colorful letters. The rest of the text is simply black. The only other word that is incorporated into the illustration is the word, “Eeewwwwww”. This word is stretched out to make it have more of a dramatic affect.

There is a lot of onomatopoeia throughout this entire story. When Froggy is getting dressed, the book says, “Zip! Zoop! Zup! Zup! Zut! Zut! Zat!” in addition, when Froggy is playing his saxophone, the text says, “Honk! Screeeech! SQUAAAAAAWK!” In this particular quote, the author uses capital letters to add emphasis on certain words. Other onomatopoeia examples throughout this book include blam, shlump, flop, thump, and znap. These words make the story more interesting and enjoyable to read.

The illustrations in this story are very entertaining. The illustrator shows Froggy’s expressions very clearly. Although the characters are frogs, they have human like characteristics. This allows the reader to understand what the frogs are feeling. For example, Froggy is very excited when he is getting a cookie out of a cookie jar. His eyes open wide and his mouth opens with cheerfulness. When Frogilina kisses Froggy his face gets pink and his eyes close. His tongue is sticking out as if he is disgusted. These emotions allow the reader to understand how the frogs are feeling.

I thought the storyline for this book was a little inappropriate for young readers. I liked some of the other "Froggy" books, but this one just wasn't up to par for me. I it did one thing right, it was using the sound effects, which can help younger readers. It's a good way to get the reader or listener involved and it could become a lesson for using onomatopoeias.

Makes you smile because we've all been froggy at one time in our childhood or another. He wants to play outside with friends but all his friends are busy and his dad arranged a play date with a family friend who happens to be a girl and nothing goes his way.

Fun book to read! It can be used to show how to play with a new friend, or even about forcing kisses and how a person could feel. It can also show that it is ok to have friends of the opposite sex!

This was a new one that I had never read or seen before. It wasn't as good as his previous books, but I think it is still fun for kids to read.

I thought this book was kind of cute, and I think many children can identify especially when kids get to the age when girls have " cooties" I thought it took a humorous spin to it.

Didn't like it, but it was good to show my daughter how a boy feels when she forces a kiss on him.

This book is cute for young readers, and while I found the frog diet a bit disgusting, I'm sure children would think it was really cool. And the play date was ... well, the worst ...

It is Froggy, what more can I say? He is adorable, especially when he is, "more red in the face than green"!
