I read the entire book during an eight week course. Crying will be likely. Good content though! Very informative.

A good read for a textbook. Lots of "othering" in nursing, especially mental health nursing. I found the chapters on gender identity and transvestism culturally unaware, but what do you expect with the organizing principle of the DSM-IV-TR? I also discovered, in the sexual disorder chapter, that I had been the victim of a Frotteur. It was a textbook case of it, even--occurring in the underground in Vienna while I was standing at a cash machine. Definition: "Frotteurism is characterized by rubbing or touching a nonconsenting person. In fact, the word frotteurism originates from the French word frotter, which means to 'rub or scrape.' The disorder is usually seen in men and typically occurs in busy public places, particularly in subways and buses, where the individual can escape after touching his victim. Here I thought that guy was just a super creep, but he's actually super creep with a genuine mental illness. Either way, it reminded me of how angry and bewildered I was about it at the time, and made me think that I could not work with sexually dysfunctional patients effectively. Counseling a pedophile is beyond my capacity for empathy. ...more

This is a GREAT textbook! I read every page that we were assigned to read, and found myself reading more than was assigned for class. This is definitely the least boring nursing textbook that I have ever come across (and I am not even interested in going into psych nursing).

Very interesting nursing book. Book is easy to read and understand unlike some nursing books that have too much fluff and not enough detail about the subject at hand.

This book, as well as other school books, has been all I've had time to read lately. I wish I had more time to read for fun!!!

Sometimes repetitive, but it seems like all of my nursing books are. Useful to study for tests from.
