People may think of chains, whips, blood, and pain in terms of BDSM

People may think of chains, whips, blood, and pain in terms of BDSM(Bondage & Discipline, Dominance & Submission, and Sadism & Masochism), where one person controls another in a dehumanizing fashion. I know I did. That was until Fifty Shades of Gray (written by E.K. James) and this subject companion entered the market. The book by Marisa Bennett is perfect for the BDSM beginner or the curious-minded. For anyone who had already embraced the BDSM lifestyle, this book will more than likely not provide any new information. However, if a person who is already a BDSM pro wishes to take on an inexperienced partner, this book would be a seamless read.
The book takes the reader through various scenarios and methods to enliven sexual encounters and explains how couples should introduce and safely use toys--the naughty kind of toys found in sex shops or online sex stores. For example, Marisa talks about using hot wax in a safe and secure manner, so one, the house does not burn down, and two, the recipient of the hot wax does not receive a third degree burn. She also explains proper maintenance of toys and care for the recipient's mind and body. Perhaps the most meaningful inference here is to never use dominance as a means to exert power that physically and emotionally scars your partner.
I recommend, when reading Marisa's book, you dim the lights, shine a reading light over the couch or bed, pour a glass of wine, and turn on an intermezzo music station. The book, while thorough, is a short bedside companion. This will prove to be a delight, because reading it may create mischievous thoughts. The author provides blank pages with questions at the end. I recommended reading the questions and answering them in your head. If the answers are in your head, then your partner will be surprised with the methods you choose to implement.
For a further recommendation, in addition to Marisa's, have your partner likewise read the book and agree that each of you partake in a method outlined without question. However, only do this once hard limits are effectively communicated. Hard limits are anything that one person refuses to partake in. They should be taken seriously and without question. Discussing hard limits is a step towards effective communication, which is a step in achieving a conflict free relationship. In mirroring Marisa's message, be careful, be safe, and always have a willful partner. Enjoy the new journey! Not ready to partake in this lifestyle, no problem, try the Intensity!by!Jopen.

If you've read 50 Shades, you can figure it all out for yourself
Absolutely hated this book! I know very little about this lifestyle, I would consider myself a novice but there was nothing in this book that I had not already figured out by reading the 50 Shades trilogy or from my own experimentation. Was a complete waste of money and time. Save yourself, the book is a joke!

A good light read with a few new ideas
For me there wasn't much new information here just maybe some good ideas. Even the best relationships need to keep a spark alive and coming up with new ways to be sexy for each other is a key to that.

Don't buy
Not as interesting as I thought it would be. I thought it was more a story than a how to.

Its a must read after the Fifty shades of Grey trilogy! I wanted to learn more and experiment more. This book was a great way for me to express to my boyfriend what i wanted him to do without having him read the trilogy. It allowed us to enter into an unknown territory and start trying new experiences. It made BDSM playful and not intimidating. It was funny quick read that covered all the basics!!

The book

1. is really basic, and I did not like the "self-help" style of writing, again, a book I had to skim some parts so boring it was...
2. there are not too many funny parts that made the reading enjoyable (believe me, there are many things "introduced" in this book that could be learned from movies, and not even erotica, like Sherlock Holmes (ir u r handcuffed by a sex partner, u can be in trouble if he/she is not trustworthy etc)... and so many boring points... really, watching movies and, The book

3. Probably, for those who though 50 shades of boredom was awesome, this book might be news, but for me, it was just boring... and the self-help approach made it worse, so, I do not recommend it for people who would feel the same about it.
4. It is not decided if the book if to be read and instructions followed by a man or woman, there are no specific parts for a man or a woman, so, it is also confusing in its attempted "simplicity.
5. Conclusion: Did not like it. It is a pity that I must review it, for it is not gonna be a positive review. There are more comprehensive and funny books about sex, even the basics, than this one. And some things are just... too unnecessary to be said/written. It one really needs this kind of advice, I'm sorry, but this book was not for me. ...more

This book is ok and possibly good for someone who does not know anything or knows very little but for those who have done reading and learning in this area the book does not provide much new information. The title was well done to play to the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' trilogy. I would recommend for a novice-maybe.

Now this book was fun...it will help with those who might want to branch out a bit with their love lives...I thought it was entertaining and informative. Marissa Bennett writes a good manual, while also giving heed to safety and health concerns. You want a resposible jump start to your new lifestyle, well here it is Ladies and Gents...you will enjoy.

A book I would recommend to someone with no experience, not something that I got into, being married forever and a day, most of the reading in this I found "done that".

Nothing new. The name was nothing but pure marketing really. This was my first of the genre and probably my last. We'll see.

This book was a complete piggy back of 50 shades and cosmo magazine! There was nothing in this book that has not already been written about in cosmo!

I love what I have learned. Just the kind of book what I look for to learn and add to my knowledge ... and did it. The book approaches BDSM in a way that makes it playful and not intimidating. Not ...Full Review

Very Much a Pleasure 101 Book
Good book. Much more of a 'beginner' book than I expected.I gave it to a friend that is sort of clueless about such things and they tell me they are learning! Glad to find someone that needed it!

Not recommended for purchase
This book was a total loss of my money, and I believe it was used under the guise of the Fifty Shades of Grey series. Which was misleading. I am very disappointed.
