AMAZING! Such a great book as an intro to how to hand letter, use fountain pens and other mediums.

The book is large and gives some really great examples and helps you to see every detail of how to make the letters.

Bullet journal here I come!

Oh. My. Gosh.
I was so surprised when I saw this book. I thought it'd have some instruction and quick examples, but I was SO wrong. The book is so much bigger than I expected and easy to practice in. The whole feel of the book too, it just reminds me of a workbook I had in elementary. So much instruction and great room to practice. I HIGHLY recommend.

I like this book
I like this book. It has a lot of different types of tips/instructions. It's not jsut lettering. It's modern calligraphy, typography, hand lettering, chalk lettering, and little projects that you can do. It's a good books for beginners if you want to hit the ground running.

Hand lettering tricks of the trade
The lengthy title tells it all. Great for beginners who want to learn the art of calligraphy. It also serves to inspire creative people who are always looking for ways to boost their artistic talent at work, at home, for gifts and just for personal pleasure and fun. Plenty for every visual artist.

Create a new writing style painlessly
Speaking as a person whose writing is pretty terrible, this book has done wonders for me. How to form the letters is explained very well and in no time I was able to write the invitations for my wedding beautifully.

Super waste of money
I used to love calligraphy in school.. it's been a long time since I practiced and have forgotten much. I thought this book would be a great tool to get me back into it. But it really is worthless. It has no real instruction.. just ideas for craft projects. Such as write on a chalkboard... write on a plate with a porcelain pen. It was seriously useless. It starts out super basic on how to hold the pen but then skips right to vague projects without ever really showing you how to make the lettering. Super waste of money. I wasn't looking for idea on WHAT to letter, but looking for introduction on how to letter

Not Beginner Friendly
I thought this would be more educational and walk you step-by-step on how to create letters. Most of it was pictures, a few tips, and then you had to create something using your own creative license. For a beginner, I want something more instructional.

Great Resource for Beginners! Highly Recommend!
I hesitated at first when I considered buying this since there are so many free lettering tutorials available online. But I am super glad I bought this book. Its a one stop shop of all the basic info you need to know to begin letter, with plenty of space to practice your technique. I'm only part of the way through this book and I have already learned so much!

Not what I was expecting at all...
Although the book arrived in excellent condition the description is a bit off. This book is 98% lettering using different mediums/utensils. There's really no ideas or different lettering types to it. Was hoping it would give more insight on different lettering styles but I saw maybe 3-4 in the whole book, not all had the how-to. I'll be returning.

Not helpful.
I don't find this book very informative at all. Also, there is no help here for the left handed writer. Do you think we don't exist?

From the time I was in grade school I have enjoyed embellishing my handwriting. I like adding little flourishes and writing certain words. I have on occasion (though not in many years) addressed envelopes for friends for special events. But for some time now I have not been doing much hand lettering- other than grocery lists (why does my family have to eat EVERY SINGLE NIGHT?) and quick notes to family, teachers, and co-workers. I just do not write much anymore. This summer one of things I am From the time I was in grade school I have enjoyed embellishing my handwriting. I just do not write much anymore. This summer one of things I am working on with our youngest is hand writing. His is ATROCIOUS. I told him I would practice with him and picked this book up for inspiration (he has a workbook b/c I CAN'T EVEN).

I love this book! There are exercises to help you practice different types of hand lettering:

The tips actually work and after just a few practice sessions I can see a difference in my handwriting. There are different mediums that are highlighted: chalk, porcelain pins, & even water colours (but also just pens, markers, and pencils). I also liked some of the projects: gift tags, temporary tattoos, and a table centerpiece.

Meh.
I was really excited to get this book; I wanted to learn Modern Calligraphy. It did teach me a couple things, then there was a bunch of stuff about different types of hand lettering. So I went online and found about a billion websites chock full of print and video tutorials that taught me way more about Modern Calligraphy than this book. I wish I would have checked it out at the library first.

Not very useful
Mostly specialized or common-sense advice. I wanted a beginner's guide to lettering, with drills and how-tos, and got a bunch of generalizations instead. Save your money.

Returned it
Had some instructions about getting started, but honestly only had a few pages of actual instructions themselves. Rest of the book is just examples without instructions and at one point the book actually tells you to "look up your favorite styles on the internet" in leu of actually teaching you how to do sign lettering. Waste of money. At least had a fairly easy return process.

Good depending on what your looking for
Good depending on what your looking for, as I had some experinece with type I found this a bit basic and it wasn't as useful as hoped but if your just starting out and have a generalised interest it could be great for you.

A great book for newbies to lettering. Explains the how-to's pretty darn well, and encourages practice. There are blank practice pages in the book, good if you purchase it rather than check it out from the library, but I'm not sure it was the best use of pages unless you want to crack the spine to make it stay flat. I'd just use another sheet of paper. :)

Really pretty and fun. However, since it covers a few different art styles on lettering like calligraphy and chalk lettering, don't expect an in-depth art book on the techniques. Probably great when looking for inspiration.

Would be great for someone with more knowledge (and money to spend on supplies). I assumed it was more basic than it was but will be good once I get a better grasp on the skills!

More like "projects to make while tracing fonts." I don't know, maybe it's because I do hand-lettering myself but I feel like this is really elementary. I guess for someone who is intimidated about creating their own alphabets it's a start. Also, the bit about dropcaps does not give any visual examples of dropcaps. When you have a bunch of caps in a row making a word and one of them isn't dropped, it's not a dropcap, it's just a cap. Just saying.

This was a pretty mediocre overview without actually teaching much of anything. I feel like it was the book version of a Pinterest board with craft ideas.

Not worth it.
Lettering style outdated and not much information to help you learn. I've been busy and missed my return date.

Don't know yet. It was a gift for my daughter-in-law and she hasn't had much time to spend with this book. She will after school is out.
Thank You!!
