I know that many crafts use the same part of the brain that one uses in meditation, so I wasn't surprised to read that many other adults were turning to coloring. I have bought several different types of books and I find that I like a lot of the ones by Creative Haven/Dover. I have found that my non-alcohol based markers and my gel pens all leak through this brand of book, so I am sure to place paper between the pages to keep the pages behind fresh and clean. I've found that freezer paper works really well for this purpose.

The pages of the book are single-sided and are perforated at the bound edge so you can remove the page to color or to frame afterwards. The pages are a bright white and have a decent pound weight - they are not flimsy.

This is the second Creative Haven book by Marjorie Sarnat (her first has been one of my favorite - Cats.) This book of Owls is now tied for for my top honors. There are 31 images to color (if you don't include the small faceplate on the title page.) The images have a wide range, including: an owl sitting on a wildly decorated crescent moon, an owl with butterflies, a "smart" owl amongst his/her books, owls on a wooden rocking horse, pirate owls, fairy tale owl, totem pole owls, steampunk owl, the owl and the pussycat (yes, cat included!) and many, many more.

These illustrations are so lovely, I plan to do each and every one of them. I love that the Ms. Sarnat has used such wild colors in her artwork - I plan to color these with just that kind of abandon.

Charming!
This is a really cute and charming coloring book perfect for owl aficionados and colorists who like quirky pictures. This reminds me of a mash up of one of Johanna Basford's books and Amy Weber's Curious Creatures. I plan to color with Staedtler fibre tips and Fineliners, as well as colored pencils.
As always with Creative Haven coloring books, the pages are single sided and perforated, and will need a paper buffer between pages when using markers.

Descriptions of the whimsical owls that fill these coloring book pages! An absolute 10/10 coloring book!
Since I'm unable to upload any pictures of the pages, here are a few descriptions:

Mama Owl and owlet on a branch, lots of floral and leaf detail, sun shining.
Owl on a crescent moon, lots of peace signs & yin-yang, & celestial bodies.
Gorgeous owl with wings spread, flying among some butterflies and flowers.
Owl with accompanying crafty owls with button eyes (sounds creepy but is really cute).
Hippy owl with a peace sign alongside guitars.
Family of owls riding on a rocking horse
Mr. and Mrs. Owl (or King and Queen?) along with goblets.
Nautical owl with ships, shells and sea creatures.
Owl with Russian nesting dolls.
Royal owl in the foreground and a castle in the background
Wizardy owl looking into a crystal ball that has a castle inside it.
Owl flying among some beautiful kites.
Totem pole owl complete with an owl perched on one of the totem wings
Owl surrounded by coins and monetary bills
Pharmacist owl with tonic & tincture bottles
Steampunk owl, Tarot owl, pinwheel owl, harp owl....
You get the idea....so many adorable and whimsical owl pictures! This is a great gift for an owl lover and perfect for yourself if you like to get lost in intricate coloring pages. I've used Sharpie Ultra-points with great results. Will buy many more copies of this coloring book!

Remember when coloring was fun? It's back! w/ detailed images & well made books w/ tear out images to color. What's not to like?
Very detailed images. What can I say, I love owls and coloring! A marriage made in Creative Haven!
As in another, more detailed review (see Magnificent Mehndi Designs from Creative Haven) these images were created with adults in mind; fine motor skills are a must because there are a lot of small to very small spaces to fill. What makes coloring so stress reducing for me - I have to concentrate on detail on the page and not a lot about anything else - ahh...relaxation for the mind.
I use colored pencils, the paper it is printed on is not that thick for watercolors so I don't suggest that, but each page has only one image on one side and the page is perforated so that it can be torn out and colored separately. Crayons, pens, markers and pastels could also be used to color these very detailed pictures. Remember when playing was fun? It's back!
An talented artist created these brand new images and Dover Books has struck gold with me in the modestly priced Creative Haven series.

Imagine if DaVinci's sketches were available to color..how many more people would have been inspired to be creative and artistic!

Lots of Fun & Whimsy
Coloring hobbyists who loved Creative Cats, will have more fun with Ms. Sarnat's Owls. The art is fun on each themed page. The pages are perforated & the paper quality is excellent, able to hold up to water based markers & gel pens, as well as alcohol markers. Hours of coloring fun, each page is more interesting than the next. These Owls are so cute, you will want to frame your finished pictures!

Good one for the price!
So far so good. This is my first adult coloring book and I used RoseArt colored pencils to color the first few pages. It does get tiring after a little while and my writing hand hurts a little, but you can always take a break and start again where you left off.

I like how there is a wide variety of shapes to color. It's a one-sided page coloring book as well so you don't have to worry about ruining a drawing at the back of the page you are coloring. I don't know if I can say the same when using markers to color or anything other than pencils.

So far, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. It entertains me when I need to destress and I am always excited to color them. I'm not good at coloring or choosing a nice, coordinated palette but it does its job of taking my mind away somewhere else for a little bit while I am coloring.

Nothing but love for my first adult coloring book.
I always loved to color but haven't in years. I decided it was time to get back to it because my stress level has been through the roof and I need something to do that isn't using the part of my brain that is using words. As a writer, I think a LOT and as a person with anxiety, my thoughts can be stressful. I had no idea what book to buy for my first venture but when I saw this one with owls in it, I knew I had to have it. I love owls and have a small tattoo of an owl in a tree with the moon behind him.

I was a little worried when I saw the description photo because the book looked cut off at the bottom and I wondered if the pages would also be cut off. When I received the book, the bottom did and does look like it was cut short a bit but none of the 30 pages are affected at all. They are full pages with plenty of space around them.

Because I am a n00b at adult coloring,I bought a few sets of different kinds of pencils and I have a great set of gel pens as well. I am still getting up the nerve to actually put a writing utensil to the paper and start on a picture but I plan to start tonight. I love every picture in this book and have chosen the one I will start with. It looks a little less complicated than the others and it is my favorite of all the pages.

The drawings are unique, pretty, and very, very detailed. There are some mighty small areas to color which will take some concentration but nothing looks impossible. The paper is thick and the pictures are on just one side so you can use almost anything to color with and won't ruin another picture because none is on the backside. I plan to either rip the page out and color it or put a piece of paper between the pages anyway, just in case. I may be using gel pens and they could be a bit dense.

For the low price, I could not be happier with the quality and selection of drawings in this book. It's not going to be easy or fast to color these pages but that's the idea. Relax, take my time, create in a whole new way - without words. I can't wait to get started and am very glad I started with this book. I plan to buy others for variety and, if I find that the quality of the others I buy is better, I will lower my rate on this book but for now. I am going with 5 stars. I just love the variety of owls and quality of paper in the book.

Absolutely lovely adult coloring book. I love all things owl, and the owls presented in this book were perfect. Rich with detail, the designs range from pretty owls with paisleys and flowers, to whimsical owls wearing top hats and playing instruments. The pages are a thicker card stock and hold up nicely with gel pens and markers, but beware of over-saturation as the paper will start to pill in spots. I used gel pens with some, shading pencils with others, and art markers with the rest. Pencils Absolutely lovely adult coloring book. Very relaxing time for mom to zone out WITH the kids.
My creative haven owls coloring book is really alot of fun. I print out many different coloring items for my young twin girls but I wanted something for myself. I recently got some really nice pencils and wanted to try them out so I ordered this book. I have always loved owls so I thought this would be nice. I have been coloring mine in while my girls color other pages I print for them. It is nice to have mine all in a book so that I can say this is Mommies and you have your own! Of course my pencils are better than theirs (in their eyes) so they need to "borrow" one every now and than but I found it is a relaxing time coloring with my kiddos. Kind of puzzle or board game replacement where I can zone out but still be with them. In time I will probably buy the girls their own books but for now they enjoy the printables while I work in my book.

The cover on this book is nicely coated paper and when you live with small kids you will appreciate that. It is also easy to open and stay on the page you are coloring on. Being one sided you can display your finished artwork if you want. My daughters want one each to display in their room!

You don't have to be a huge fan of owls (though it would probably help) to enjoy this coloring book. You will find that there are 31 different highly detailed owl designs to get lost in.

Each design takes up the page and is single sided. Being single sided is fantastic if you are a fan of coloring with marker. The paper does seem to have some thickness to it, but to be on the safe side I would recommend placing a separate sheet between the designs in case markers decide to bleed through. That way the design on the following page will not get ruined.

What is also really nice about this coloring book is that each page is perforated. This will allow you to remove any design you wish with ease. This feature will allow you to display your work once you have completed it without the worry of ruining it.

This adult coloring book is sure to give hours of enjoyment.

Lots of intricate detail
I have several adult coloring books and the Creative Haven ones are amongst my favorites. The Owls book is printed on decent paper stock that allows me to fully saturate my pictures and to color blend without tearing or becoming weak. The pictures are printed on one side so there is no concern about print showing through from the other side or about markers soaking through and ruining another picture. Each page has a perforation near the spine so that individual pictures can be removed. I prefer to remove the pages before I begin to work on them because I like a flat working surface, but I do know people who prefer to keep them all in the original book. The style of perforation in this book is the larger dotted sections so they don’t tear out as easily and they do leave “bumps” on the edges, so scissors will be needed to clean up the edge.

I have used gel pens, colored pencils, and water colors on these pages. The paper works well with all 3 of those mediums, but my favorite is to use a combination of nicer quality colored pencils and watercolors. A nice set of watercolor pencils would also work quite well. I do like the art nouveau style, and it is fun to work with all the detail.

I wish there was more variety in the style of the owls, but overall I am happy with this book.

While I don’t think I will frame and hang the completed pieces, I do find it satisfying to mindlessly sit and work through the pages. I will finish this book and I might buy more.

I purchased this book at full price as a personal purchase, and a review was not required.

Every owl has the exact same face. I expected this coloring book to feature the wonderful variation of owls.

They're all the same.
All the owls look the same, there was little to no creativity put into the design of this book. Just go to a book store so you can get a preview before you buy. Even the baby owls have the same face as the grown owls, there is no individuality between owls.

It's a rip off when you make people believe they are getting more than they're actually getting.
I was angry when I found out that this was only 1 earbud. If you want to avoid confusion I suggest you either add a second earbud or don't make it plural because it only comes with.
