Quiet and soft-spoken, Kate Zook is the responsible eldest
daughter in an Amish family and prides herself on fulfilling her role.
Then, one fateful snowy night, she uncharacteristically speaks her
mind—and unwittingly plays a part in a horrible accident.
Wracked
by guilt over her role in the tragedy that left her brother David
injured, Kate devotes herself to his care, going so far as to take on
his chores in the fields. Even so, her brother’s resentment toward her
grows, and David torments Kate, making her increasingly isolated life
even more difficult.
Though Kate’s parents have emotionally
withdrawn, someone outside the home takes an interest in Kate and notes
her clear grief. Samuel, a local boy, has recently returned from a wild
rumschpringe—the Amish term for exploring the wider world—and
recommitted to his community. Intrigued by Kate’s gentle yet loyal ways,
he begins to fall in love with her. But tensions rise as he refuses to
put up with David’s rage. As Kate’s heart begins to stir and cry out for
happiness, she must rely on faith to find forgiveness or risk losing
out on love.

Thus book held my attention from the first page until the very last page. It shows the turmoil that any family would face when one person makes a poor decision that ends one life and effects so many other lives. What was very interesting to me is that the family in the story is Amish.Aug 26, 2014
In that unique voice of hers, Sarah Price has penned a heartrending but lovely story of romance, secrets, guilt, and shame – under the guise of a seemingly perfect Amish community; overflowing with colorful daffodils, robin red-breasts, and sparkling, fish-filled rivers.Aug 28, 2014
Sarah Price has shown once again with "An Amish Buggy Ride" why when a reader reads one of her books, they want to read all she has ever written.Nov 01, 2014
Once again Sarah Price caused me to forget about my life and lose myself in the lives of Kate Zook and Samuel Esh as I was transported to a farm in Pennsylvania. She is a master at creating characters who are so real they become a part of me.Oct 08, 2014
This book got to me. Pure and simple it got to me. Just for that very reason, the purity and the simplicity. I have always been curious of the Amish way of life, probably because I long for the simplicity and the community it inspires. Kate Zook our protagonist bears a heavy weight on her shoulders. The accident that took her brother’s girl’s friend’s life and changed his life forever blames his sister and makes her life miserable. What a great read, so many holding on to guilt, and others making them feel guilty, we are led down the road, to redeeming? Or will, the guilt over rule everything in their lives?Sep 23, 2018

Been quite awhile since I've read an Amish Book. This was a very interesting and an emotional one as well. A Young man and his girl friend were in a buggy and were riding it. Bad news is that they were drinking whiskey and it lead up to a wreck and two people lost their lives. As the book unfolds we learn more about this, and find the weak spots that many of the characters have. As the book unfolds we learn more about this, and find the weak spots that many of the characters have. It was very well written, and found that the characters asked for forgiveness in that they knew about kids and the alcohol and didn't tell any one. They had a congregational meeting, and many of the members confessed of this horrible event. The Bishop lead the discussion and as more and more people confessed that they knew of the alcohol it really touched the members of the group. I recommend this if you like that type of reading. I used to read a lot of Amish books. Should read more. Enjoy! ...moreJul 18, 2018

I read this book on the Kindle and it was slow going at first. Kate's brother,David had a few too many drinks and she refused to ride home in the buggy with him and his girlfriend, Ruth. There's a terrible accident and the book is about what happens after the accident. Kate feels responsible and tries to help her family and David in any way that she can. Samuel was one of my favorite characters because he is so easy going and dependable. At the end Kate accepts that she did the best she could I read this book on the Kindle and it was slow going at first. My first Amish storyOct 28, 2017
I really enjoyed almost very minute of this book. The Amish/Mennonite world is so different from most of our every day experience. Outside of the world, but the youth have the opportunity to try it out. Some leave their roots, but many come back. It is an ideal life if the bishop and community is as rational and forgiving as this one is, I came away with feeling of great grace and peace, which is a really good experience.Dec 02, 2017
