Quiet and soft-spoken, Kate Zook is the responsible eldest
daughter in an Amish family and prides herself on fulfilling her role.
Then, one fateful snowy night, she uncharacteristically speaks her
mind—and unwittingly plays a part in a horrible accident.

Wracked
by guilt over her role in the tragedy that left her brother David
injured, Kate devotes herself to his care, going so far as to take on
his chores in the fields. Even so, her brother’s resentment toward her
grows, and David torments Kate, making her increasingly isolated life
even more difficult.

Though Kate’s parents have emotionally
withdrawn, someone outside the home takes an interest in Kate and notes
her clear grief. Samuel, a local boy, has recently returned from a wild
rumschpringe—the Amish term for exploring the wider world—and
recommitted to his community. Intrigued by Kate’s gentle yet loyal ways,
he begins to fall in love with her. But tensions rise as he refuses to
put up with David’s rage. As Kate’s heart begins to stir and cry out for
happiness, she must rely on faith to find forgiveness or risk losing
out on love.

Thus book held my attention from the first page until the very last page. It shows the turmoil that any family would face when one person makes a poor decision that ends one life and effects so many other lives. What was very interesting to me is that the family in the story is Amish.
A wonderful book by Ms. Price

In that unique voice of hers, Sarah Price has penned a heartrending but lovely story of romance, secrets, guilt, and shame – under the guise of a seemingly perfect Amish community; overflowing with colorful daffodils, robin red-breasts, and sparkling, fish-filled rivers.

Kate is a lovely young Amish woman, whose life and the lives of her entire family were changed the night a terrible tragedy took place. Feeling responsible, Kate's life consists of helping her father run the family farm, attending church, and helping her aunt with her new baby. After all, how could she possibly go to singings, laugh, and be social as if nothing had ever happened? Her life is made even more miserable by the guilt piled on her by an obnoxious family member and the obvious darkness hovering over her family. When the handsome and friendly Samuel Esh comes into Kate's life she has no social skills, but slowly begins to open up as a rosebud in the summer sun. However, she knows deep down she can never have Samuel for she has greatly sinned, not once but twice…

In her own exquisite style, Sarah Price has once again penned a unique "out-of-the box" Amish tale guaranteed to captivate the reader from page one! Ms. Price masterfully writes of an Amish community – where the consequences of keeping dark secrets are as far reaching as the ripples in a stream, and where love hides a multitude of sins! An Amish Buggy Ride is truly a wonderful story of romance and redemption, and one that made me cry because of the stark reality of the storyline. Not your typical cookie cutter Amish read – be sure to put this one at the top of your wishlist!

Sarah Price has shown once again with "An Amish Buggy Ride" why when a reader reads one of her books, they want to read all she has ever written.

I was given a pdf version of "An Amish Buggy Ride"by Sarah Price for an honest review and this reader was not disappointed at all with the story except I didn't want it to end. I really didn't want to leave the characters in"story land". I wanted to know more.

The title is just perfect for the story, as the story starts with an Amish buggy ride.

Kate Zook is bullied vocally by her brother David. David blames Kate for the accident that causes his disability. My heart really ached for Kate and I was literally saying aloud as I was reading "David you are really not a nice person and Kate, why are you letting him do this to you?" At one point in the story I was literally cheering for Samuel when he stood up to David.

I think the reason this story is so great is because it shows that Amish families has troubles and tribulations like the Englische (non-Amish people) families. We all know characters like David and Kate in real life. That is why Sarah Price's books are so wunderbar gut (wonderfully good) because she brings real life into her fiction.

"An Amish Buggy Ride" by Sarah Price is a love story but also a story about faith and healing.

Is guilt really Kate's to accept or should she accept Samuel's interest in her and learn to move on?

There is a surprise waiting for Kate one day at church, I was totally shocked when I learned this as I am sure that most readers would be. I do have to say that I was happy to learn this surprise.

I am sure it is no surprise that I am giving "An Amish Buggy Ride" by Sarah Price five stars. ...more

Once again Sarah Price caused me to forget about my life and lose myself in the lives of Kate Zook and Samuel Esh as I was transported to a farm in Pennsylvania. She is a master at creating characters who are so real they become a part of me.

For me, relating to Kate is not difficult. She has committed what she considers un-forgivable sins and is tormented by un-forgiveness and an unrealistic self-view.

Her brother, David, feeds her feelings of worthlessness by constantly blaming her for and reminding her of a horrible accident which left him permanently injured. While his treatment of her is malicious, she allows him to continue because she feels she deserves his abuse.

Samuel Esh walks into her life and through gentle love and kindness begins treating her with respect and honor. He gives her value. He gives her time and teaches her to love and forgive herself while at the same time inches his way into her heart.
It is a beautiful story which, to me, is a parallel story to the way God treats us. We often feel unworthy of our own forgiveness, let alone God’s. God wants us to understand that He accepts us no matter what we’ve done—that He thinks we are beautiful and valuable.

An Amish Buggy Ride is a story of mistakes, choices, forgiveness, relationships and love.

As always it is pure delight to have the opportunity to read Sarah’s story as she weaves her character’s lives in with our lives…to get to know them, while learning something about myself at the same time.

I was privileged to receive this story in exchange for my honest opinion and review. ...more

This book got to me. Pure and simple it got to me. Just for that very reason, the purity and the simplicity. I have always been curious of the Amish way of life, probably because I long for the simplicity and the community it inspires. Kate Zook our protagonist bears a heavy weight on her shoulders. The accident that took her brother’s girl’s friend’s life and changed his life forever blames his sister and makes her life miserable. As Kate struggles with this, a young man Samuel has taken interest in her and in that relationship she learns about the deep things of faith. That it is not an ideal, but one that makes living with purpose.

I liked how the author contrasted the life of the Amish with Kate’s family. There were some secrets that kept them from knowing the love of each other but more importantly God’s love for them. In knowing Kate, you know the struggle she faces and what she must do to overcome it. It is not easy as one would think because it takes an act of faith and being vulnerable. Samuel’s character is enduring as he struggles to understand Kate and in understanding Kate paves the way for her to heal and her family to heal. I have to admit, I cried. I loved his example of love and the simplicity of his love. It is a love that is cultivated and creates a place for love to grow.

What a great read, so many holding on to guilt, and others making them feel guilty, we are led down the road, to redeeming? Or will, the guilt over rule everything in their lives?
This is one page-turning read, from the first page to the very end, and loved the epilogue! Dealing with act of forgiveness can be hard, and even harder if you cannot forgive yourself. We have a great time riding in the buggy, and could almost feel like I was there, with the clip clop of the horse’s feet. Loved going to the park and felt like I was feeling the spray from the beautiful waterfalls, and looking at the fauna and wildlife, my kind of a field trip.
What a surprising out-come you are about to experience, loved the way things turned out when I never saw it coming. You will need the tissues handy, and the emotions felt in this story could go more than one way, especially when you are hurting.
Don’t miss this exceptional Amish read, really one of the best I’ve read, it has all of the best parts of Amish life here.

I received this book through the Author Sarah Price, and was not required to give a positive review.

An Amish tale of love in the aftermath of misfortune and regret

It is hard to create a story exploring dysfunction, abuse and loss within a family while setting the stage for a love story to unfold, but I believe it was masterfully done. Sarah Price is a master at creating these simplistic Amish Christian stories. Enjoy!

"An Amish Buggy Ride"
By Sarah Price
I have enjoyed all of the books written by this author, so fully expected to love this one as well. What I did NOT expect, was to think that it was the BEST yet!! I have enjoyed all of the books written by this author, so fully expected to love this one as well. What I did NOT expect, was to think that it was the BEST yet!! I knew that Sarah is a talented gal who writes from the heart, but this book is one that has a message that stayed with me long after I had finished reading it!
The main character, Kate Zook, is a quiet Amish young woman who is always responsible and prides herself on fulfilling her role in being a "good daughter". However, on one horrible snowy night, Kate does the unthinkable, she speaks her mind and appears to play a part in an earth shattering accident.
Kate is left feeling extremely guilty for her role in the accident that left her brother injured, thus takes it upon herself to devote herself to his care. She even takes over his chores in her father's fields. Her brother, David, deeply resents Kate and continually torments her and makes her feel inferior to all others. She becomes isolated, lonely and fearful.
Kate gets very little support from anyone in her home, however, her situation becomes apparent to Samuel, a local young man who has recently ended his wild years, rumschpringe. He has once again returned to the fold and is totally intrigued by Kate's gentle, loyal ways to her cruel brother. Romance grows, as does tension. Kate so desires happiness, but David's rage becomes worse and worse. In order for her to ever develop a loving relationship, she must first forgive herself and accept the forgiveness of the Lord. The question is, will David damage her life forever or can Kate , with God's help, eventually feel the love and forgiveness that God offers so freely to all?
This book has a very clear message. It is a story of mistakes, choices and forgiveness. In order for us to ever live a happy life, content in our Christian path, we must let God take over and have total control. God will forgive us, but can we forgive ourselves???? You must seek before you will find!!
The characters were realistic and well developed. I felt Kate's pain, as well as her frustrations, fears and confusion. She was easy to identify with, and quickly became a good friend who I wished I could hug and help make the hurts go away. I must say, the description of David was so real to life, that I felt my anger grow, on behalf of his sister!! He made me so frustrated!!! I had to bring myself back to reality to calm down. He was a make believe character, however, I tended to forget that!!! Sarah did a fantastic job making thischaracters so true to life.

The plot moves quickly with just enough twists and turns to keep the reader on the edge of the chair. The unexpected was just around every corner. Sarah has done a superior job at describing events and reactions to them that would be typical in an Amish community. I felt that I was living along side this calm farm, filled with turmoil at each new challenge.

This book is a great read for all Amish genre lovers and for those of you who have not been attracted to this type of book, try it. Sarah writes "out of the box" . Not a typical Amish tale!! That is what makes a great book!!

This ebook was supplied by the author for review purposes.

It was very well written, and found that the characters asked for forgiveness in that they knew about kids and the alcohol and didn't tell any one. They had a congregational meeting, and many of the members confessed of this horrible event. The Bishop lead the discussion and as more and more people confessed that they knew of the alcohol it really touched the members of the group. I recommend this if you like that type of reading. I used to read a lot of Amish books. Should read more. Enjoy! ...more

My first Amish story

Awhile back. I purchased an Amish book for a gift for someone who enjoyed the genre. After reading the promo on it, I thought I'd give one a try. I really loved it. Very heartwarming to get a peek into the very simple, honest, strong faith, and hard working life of the Amish. I think it felt very true, with the use if Amish terms, etc. This story had a bit of mystery and some good life lessons. I enjoyed it a lot and may be looking for more.

I really enjoyed almost very minute of this book. The Amish/Mennonite world is so different from most of our every day experience. Outside of the world, but the youth have the opportunity to try it out. Some leave their roots, but many come back. It is an ideal life if the bishop and community is as rational and forgiving as this one is, I came away with feeling of great grace and peace, which is a really good experience.

A good Amish read

The last Amish book (not by this author). I read was not well written. This is actually decent book. I enjoyed the story with it's many layers and reading more about Amish courtship.
Content: Clean
Language: No. Clean
Religious: Extremely religious with scripture and lots of talk about prayer.

Any age could read this book.
Happy reading!!
