Nov 05, 2017I'm still to prove this book IRL situations but it was good and informative
Feb 23, 2011I got this book because it promised interview techinques, which it delivered... to a point.
Jul 11, 2019Okay so I’m a little biased in giving this four stars because after submitting my resume to two places, I was asked for interviews within three days where I proceeded to get job offers. Okay so the interview question are spot on because I was asked the same ones mentioned and thankfully I prepared my answers ahead of time as suggested by the author. I’m usually a fly by the seat of my pants kinda gal and though it works most times, I didn’t want to screw this up. You cannot be an effective teacher if you leave your emotions at the door and this works the same in an interview when talking about past classroom experiences. Anyhoo, this book is definitely worth a shot if you’re in the market for a new job. ...more
Aug 26, 2018This is a very well organized and informative book. Basically, the book puts the reader in the mind of a Hiring Manager. The book has a great number of interview questions that you will most likely be asked in an interview and the author perfectly explains why the hiring manager or interviewer is asking this type of question. The author also has tips for the job seeker so that the job seeker may get ahead of the competition. The reason I rated it 4 stars was for two reasons.
Mar 06, 2011"Believing in yourself is the starting point. Effectively communicating your abilities to others is the necessity."
May 21, 2017I read this book thanks to Blinkist.
Nov 21, 2017Very American in focus, and I did feel sorry for any Americans looking for a job, it seems a very competitive market, where employees get little holiday, and are expected to work evenings, and to put sick children in childcare.
Aug 04, 2018I thought the first and last chapters most helpful. The title is the key point - have a 60 second “sell” for the interview and do it out of the gate based on a few key qualities you want to get across (he proposed 5, I’ve usually done 3 in interviews myself). For the last chapter Nothing particularly new on negotiating salary but good advice overall imo.
Feb 13, 2018This book is extremely helpful for anyone searching for a job. It is a quick and easy read and has great tips and tricks to stand out in an interview. The practice questions are an extremely valuable tool and help in preparing for an interview. The book helps you feel prepared and not as nervous. Definitely recommended.
Dec 14, 2018Audiobook. Dated content, but good insight into how to prepare for and execute a great interview and land a job. Would recommend for ideas, but wouldn't follow everything 100%. Varies by industry and needs to be updated with modern trends.
Dec 15, 2019I have not read many books on this topic, but I would have a hard time imagining a better one than this.
Jun 28, 2018A great resource especially if you don't have a mentor or a lot of experience. It will help you better understand the US job market.
Jan 21, 2019A confirmation that what I’m doing is right. The basics that work. More relevant for the people failing at interviews.
Jan 28, 2019Pretty decent book to brush up on interview skills - whether you are the interviewee or the interviewer.
May 21, 2018My favorite interviewing/job-hunting book, it has easily referenced sections with help answering tough questions
Sep 09, 2019I appreciate the rapid fire tips in this book. There's nothing groundbreaking but the content serves as a great streamlined refresher of what to do and not to do when interviewing.
Feb 10, 2019Some general information but a great beginners guide to interviewing.
Mar 02, 2017I got this book from goodreads first reads mainly to give to either a new-to-the-job-world college friend or a recently downsized friend. Most of the info would not be useful to either of them. If you've been in the working world a while and are moving up or around this is a good book for you. Otherwise, this book really tries too much to be something for too many different people. I gave it an extra star because the interview questions portion made me reflect on my job and prefect my elevator I got this book from goodreads first reads mainly to give to either a new-to-the-job-world college friend or a recently downsized friend. Aug 18, 2017Excellent advices!!! Brilliant way to communicate your experiences during an interview.
Aug 06, 2013A great book! It's short enough that you can use it to prepare for an interview in a day. Definitely recommended for people who don't have a lot of interview experience. The book includes potential questions and what you need to think of when answering those. Even if u don't necessarily encounter the exact same questions at the interview it is a great way to put your thoughts and skills in order to make u feel and be prepared to discuss your skills and assets.
Nov 13, 2010meh... it wasn't too bad. there were a lot of potential questions you might face in an interview presented and possible answers to base yours on given. Ryan was big on this 60 second sell where you try to summarize your 3-5 key skills and abilities to the interviewers and using it for a large percentage of questions.
Feb 01, 2012Comprehensive read equally relevant to the interview and the interviewee. The 60 seconds is analogous to the elevator pitch and a lot of the examples are relevant to several aspects of business. Worth reading whether you are looking for work, or looking for staff. I got bored at times but forced myself to finish the book and found useful information even in sections that I felt weren't relevant to me.
Jun 09, 2011This seems like a common sense guide but it is amazing how many things I hadn't thought about when it comes to interviewing. Right now I am giving it three stars because I haven't had the opportunity to use what I've learned. So maybe an update is forthcoming if I have any job interviews in the near future.
Jun 14, 2016What a cute little book. Well worth the 20 minutes it took to read it, but it probably could have been condensed to three sentences: "Give responses to interview questions in 60 seconds or less. Increase the effectiveness of your responses by tying them in to your main selling points: your experience and skills. And LISTEN."
May 10, 2012It was quite informative and a great study/prep book; but in all honesty, I stopped reading shortly before a big interview so that I could focus on my preparation for it and never picked it up again (since I got the job).
